Today I want to speak to you about why “Cities Always Seem To Be Broke”. Cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York have all had huge budget gaps that they are struggling to bridge. Elected officials adopt budgets, seem to declare success, even though the manner in which they have balanced budgets seems questionable. Why does this keep happening? What is the solution?

Read my book about Municipal Financing — you can find it on Kindle and Amazon.

This is a public episode. Today I want to speak to you about “Wealthy Individuals and Corporations Fleeing Cities and States With Aggressive Tax Policies”. In California — tax and unfriendly business policies have pushed out companies like Tesla, Oracle, Chevron and X. Yet the states need these companies to give them the taxes to cover up their own self-inflicted fiscal crises. We are talking about 65 billion US dollars walking out of the door in Norway when a new law taxing high-income individuals was passed a couple of years ago. If you try to leave you are subjected to residency audits, where they track your cell phone usage, credit card swipes and even veterinary bills to check if for example, you are still living in a state like New York. The media is looking at this as a financial decision, but I think that framing misses a point. Listen to the podcast for more!

Read my book about Municipal Financing — you can find it on Kindle and Amazon.

This is a public episode. Today I want to speak to you “What is Really Happening With City Budgets?” National debt keeps going up and it’s constantly spoken about on the news, but city debt keeps going up too and no one realizes that — because it’s dispersed across space, it’s not accounted for, and there is no tallying of deferred maintenance. We hear about pension obligations and bond issues but maintenance in some cities exceed those national obligations. What are the strategies for extinguishing such city debt?

Read my book about Municipal Financing — you can find it on Kindle and Amazon.

This is a public episode.
