"God wants to give us everything - how will we respond?" - Readings for 5/13/26

In today’s First Reading, Paul and Silas are arrested for preaching the Gospel. They are beaten with rods and thrown into jail. That night, an earthquake topples the jail and frees the prisoners – but they do not flee. Instead, they share the Good News with their jailer. The Holy Spirit wants to make a disciple out of you, just as He did with Paul and Silas. He wants to empower you to love your enemies and share the Good News with them. How will you respond?

"We can hear - but do we Listen?" - Readings for 5/11/26

Today’s First Reading continues the story of Paul’s travels. He meets a woman named Lydia, who opens her heart to pay attention to what he is saying. Do we do the same thing? When someone speaks, do we listen to their words, or do they go in one ear and out the other? Our fast-paced, tech-driven world gives us plenty of ways to hear people, but we don’t often listen to them. And do we truly listen to God and what He has to say to us? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the grace to truly listen.

"Cry Out to God with Joy!" - Readings for 5/10/26

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. Do you love Jesus enough to choose His commandments over your own wills and desires? If we follow our own will, it will lead to death. But if we follow His will, we will experience real life. And we cannot even imagine the joy and happiness that will be ours. As this Sundays’ psalm reads, “cry out to God with Joy!”

"Remain in My Love" - Readings for 5/7/26

In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to “remain in His love.” How do we do this? By obeying God’s commandments. God’s laws don’t exist to restrict our freedom or limit our fun. They are our path to a more fulfilled life. You have free will. But if you conform your lives to His word and His truth, you will enter into everlasting love for all eternity. You will remain in His love.

"Save Yourself from this Corrupt Generation" - Readings for 4/26/26

In this Sunday’s First Reading, we hear how St. Peter continues to preach the Gospel. He implores the crowds to be baptized and to save themselves from this corrupt generation – and he calls on us to do the same. There are two parts to answering this call. First, we must reject the values of the world and choose the values of the Gospel. And secondly, we must reach out to others to bring them the truth.

"God's Grace is working in our lives" - Readings for 4/23/26

In today’s First Reading, Philip meets an Ethiopian man and shares the news of Jesus with him. The man soon asks to be baptized. Grace was working in the lives of both Philip and the Ethiopian, and they responded. Grace is God sharing his life with us, yet how often do we foolishly reject it? God sharing his life with us is what we were created for. God will always be victorious if we’re willing to cooperate with the grace.

"Jesus will receive us with open arms" - Readings for 4/21/26

Today’s First Reading tells the story of the Stoning of Stephen, the first martyr. We read that Saul consented to the execution – but soon after that Saul would turn his entire life around and become a witness for Jesus. It wasn’t too late for him, and it’s never too late for us. "How Hard do you look for Jesus?" - Readings for 4/20/26

In today’s Gospel, a crowd is seeking Jesus and when they cannot find Him, they get into boats and head out across the water. Do we seek Jesus with this same fervor? And what do we want from Him? Jesus tells the crowd that they are looking for him because they want a food that perishes – but He can give them the food that endures for eternal life. May we also have the grace to ask Jesus for this gift.

"God does not ration His Spirit" - Readings for 4/16/26

In today’s First Reading, Peter refuses to abide by the high priest’s orders to stop preaching about Jesus, telling the court that he “must obey God rather than men.” Peter and the other apostles are empowered by the Holy Spirit, which God bestows upon those who obey Him. It’s the same for us - God does not ration His Holy Spirit. You can have as much as you open your heart to embrace.

In today’s Food for the Journey Classics, Sr. Ann has more reflections on yesterday’s Feast of the Divine Mercy. It’s easy to make the mistake of presumption – we think that God’s mercy is so great He will forgive us no matter what. God’s capacity to forgive infinitely exceeds our own – but we must ask for it. We must repent of our sins first. God will wipe the slate clean. But we must first acknowledge that we need His mercy.

"We're blessed if we believe and have not seen" - Readings for 4/12/26

In this Sunday’s Gospel we read the story “Doubting” Thomas, who said he would not believe in the risen Lord until he placed his fingers in the nail holes. Peter Faces his Weakness - Readings for 4/9/26

Today’s First Reading continues the story of Peter healing the crippled man and preaching in front of the Temple. The same man who denied Jesus three times is now fearlessly preaching His name. Where does that come from? It comes from the Holy Spirit. Peter has seen how weak and poor he is. He’s faced it honestly. Now God can use him – just as he can use us when we humble ourselves before Him.

The Greatest Bible Study in History - Readings for 4/8/26

In today’s Gospel, two disciples meet Jesus on the Road to Emmaus. What follows is the greatest Bible study in history, as He walked them through the Scriptures and showed how He had fulfilled the Messianic prophecies. But they did not recognize Him until later, when he broke the bread. Jesus reveals Himself to us in the same way - through the Word and through the Eucharist. We need them both - don’t neglect these gifts!

"Neither do I condemn you..." - Readings for 3/23/26

In today’s Gospel, Jesus meets a woman caught in adultery. He challenges anyone in the crowd who is without sin to cast the first stone. When they leave, He says that He does not condemn her either and tells her to go and sin no more. We, too, are sinners – and the Lord forgives us just as He forgave the woman. We will never be sinless, but if we repent and acknowledge our sin, God will continue to forgive us. Lent is a time of conversion. It is a time for us to commit once again to following the Lord, just as the woman did.

Strive to be like Joseph today. Put your whole life under the lordship of Christ and ask him to show you the way!

"What is this Water?" - Readings for 3/17/26

"I was blind and now I can see!" - Readings for Sunday, 3/15/26

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus heals a man born blind. When His disciples ask if the man’s blindness was a result of his own sin or the sin of his parents, Jesus replies that it is neither – the man is blind so that Jesus may show He is the Light of the World. It is for this reason that He heals on the Sabbath, despite the Pharisees’ protests. It is for this reason that He came into the world. As we continue our journey through Lent, ask Jesus to come be the light in your life.

In Deuteronomy, Moses tells the Israelites that by following God’s Law, they show they are a “wise and intelligent people,” who are close to their God. And Jesus takes it one step further in the Gospel of Matthew, declaring that He has not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. "Forgiveness breaks the chains!" - Readings for 3/10/26

In today’s Gospel, Peter asks Jesus how many times he must forgive his brother. In response, Jesus tells him the parable of the unforgiving servant, who refused to forgive a minor debt against him. How often do we find ourselves in the same position, unwilling to forgive someone who has done us wrong? How long do we hold onto a grudge? Forgiveness can break the chains of bitterness and hatred. Forgiveness sets us free. Ask Jesus to help you forgive those in your life who have done you wrong.

Today’s Gospel recounts two remarkable miracles. On his way to visit the house of Jairus, Jesus feels a woman touch his cloak and be healed as the power rushes out of him. Upon finding the woman he tells her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you.” Jesus is then told that Jairus’ daughter has died but tells the family to not be afraid, just have faith.
