I decided to make it my main feast for this cleanse, pulling back from everything else to fully embrace the healing power it offers. Alongside soursop, I share my experience with muscadine grapes; another short-lived fruit that only shows up in late summer and disappears before you know it. Their rarity reminds me of the importance of honoring what’s in season, not just for the body, but for the soul.

But this episode is about more than food. It’s about shifting roles. So often, I find myself in the position of leading, teaching, and guiding others through their own wellness journeys. And while that role makes me feel encouraged, accountable, and valued, it also comes with a cost. Constantly being the teacher can quietly rob me of the stillness and mental clarity that cleansing is meant to bring.

For once, I wanted to step back. To stop making the cleanse a project or a lesson plan. To turn off the noise, quiet the electronics, and just be a student to nature. In this space, cleansing doesn’t feel like work, it feels like life. It feels like healing in its purest form.

In this episode, you’ll hear me reflect on:

* Why I chose soursop as my primary feast during this cleanse

* The significance of seasonal fruits like muscadines and how they teach us presence

* The tension between being a leader and allowing myself to be a student

* How silence, solitude, and nutrient-dense foods bring clarity and emotional balance

* Why healing doesn’t always need to be shared step-by-step, but can be lived deeply and privately.

If you’ve ever wrestled with the balance between sharing your journey and protecting your peace… if you’ve ever felt the pressure to constantly guide while craving space to simply learn… this episode will speak to you.

“Silence is a source of great strength.”- Lao Tzu

I want to hear from you - Follow me on social media, DM me, let’s chat!

Email: info@phstance.com

Spotify Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/5ben2hCAeywlbjDLhKS2p4?si=755707ae5c5140fe

Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rooted-in-raw-podcast/id1830644123

Lemon8: https://www.lemon8-app.com/@whitneypeoples

Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@whitneypeoples

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_whitney_peoples_/

Resource page: https://stan.store/WhitneyPeoples

This is a public episode. Reflecting on how many versions of myself I’ve had to let go of just to stay aligned with the life I’m trying to create. And if I’m honest, it hasn’t always been pretty. I’ve had to part ways with habits, thoughts, expectations, and even people I once believed were permanent.

This episode isn’t a lecture. I’m not here to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. I just want to speak from where I’m standing in the middle of growth, discomfort, clarity, and becoming.

“Be easy. Take your time. You are coming home to yourself.”— Nayyirah Waheed

Sometimes growth feels like confusion. You’ll miss your old ways, even when they weren’t serving you. You’ll crave comfort, even when it kept you stuck. But here’s what I’m learning; the life you keep asking for requires a version of you YOU haven’t met yet. And you can’t fully emerge if you're still tethered to what used to be.

If you’re in that in-between space right now, I see you. I’m with you. And I promise: you don’t have to be perfect to be making progress.

Progress used to mean giving 100% to everything—fitness, parenting, health, and self-care.

That sounds ideal, right? Like the perfect balance in a perfectly structured life.

But when I actually tried to live that out, life humbled me fast.Just pouring into fitness left me drained, physically and emotionally, which took time and energy away from parenting. And then parenting started pulling from the little I had left for my own health and self-care.

It became a cycle of depletion, not progress.

What I’ve come to realize is that real progress doesn’t mean doing everything all at once; it means doing what you can with intention. It’s giving yourself the grace to shift your focus when needed. It’s knowing that balance doesn’t mean equal effort, it means aligned effort.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t admitting that you can’t do it all; it’s admitting when it’s you getting in your own way. Accountability can sneak up on you. But when it does, don’t run, face it. Learn from it. Adjust. Keep going.

In this episode, I’m sharing some real-life moments and small decisions that have helped me step further into the woman I’m becoming.

One raw, rooted, and intentional step at a time.

Take what you need from this conversation. Let it meet you where you are. And always, always remember: you are allowed to evolve.

Takeaway for Today:You’re allowed to outgrow the version of you that once felt safe. Growth often requires letting go, not just of people or routines, but of mindsets that no longer serve who you're becoming.

Progress isn't about doing it all; it’s about choosing what truly aligns. Give yourself permission to evolve without guilt. This journey is about becoming rooted in who you are, even if that means walking away from who you used to be.

This is a public episode. We’ve all been there—caught in the cycle of planning, procrastinating, and waiting for the “perfect” moment to begin. In this episode, I’m breaking down the mindset that keeps so many of us stuck before we even begin.

I share real, personal reflections on what it looks like to start in the mess, in the middle of confusion, in the aftermath of a setback—not when it’s convenient or aesthetic, but when it’s real. If you’ve been waiting for clarity, a sign, or more willpower to kickstart your healing, your diet, or your purpose… this is that reminder: You’re already in the moment. The moment is now.

What happens when we reframe our mindset starting as a commitment to self rather than a performance? I open up about how letting go of perfection and choosing presence shifted my journey. And I challenge you—lovingly—to stop romanticizing the idea of a fresh start and recognize that your transformation is always one decision away.

If you’re struggling with inconsistency, if your raw vegan path feels heavy, or if life just feels too loud to start something new—this one’s for you. Sure, it takes discipline and consistency—but what really trips most people up is that constant lingering feeling of hunger. It can feel like no matter how much you eat, you’re just never fully satisfied.

That intense feeling, it’s not always real hunger. It’s often a signal from a stomach that’s used to being stretched out and overfed. It’s learned behavior! When you suddenly stop feeding it the same volume, it panics! But here’s the truth:

You have to train your gut! Shrinking your stomach is part of the process.

Let me break it down.

1.) Why Your Stomach is Always “Hungry”

If you’ve spent years eating large, cooked, heavy meals, processed foods, or frequent snacks, your stomach becomes accustomed to that volume and frequency. It literally expands to handle it.

Then when you shift into eating hydrating, high-fiber, water-rich foods (or doing juice cleanses or intermittent fasting), your body feels thrown off. That old, stretched-out stomach still wants more. It’s not used to being satisfied with less—even if that “less” is more nutritionally dense.

That’s where the discomfort comes in.

But discomfort isn’t a reason to quit. It’s a sign that your body is adjusting—and that’s exactly what you want

2.) Your Gut Can—and Will—Shrink!

The stomach is a muscular organ. And just like a muscle, it adapts. It expands when you consistently overeat. It contracts when you start eating lighter, smaller meals.

By sticking to a new way of eating and riding out those first few days (or sometimes weeks), you’re teaching your stomach that it doesn’t need as much to feel full. And once it starts shrinking, that uncomfortable “I’m not full!” feeling fades fast.

I promise—it gets easier!

3.) How to Support the Shrinking Process:

* Slow Down Your Eating!

-Chew thoroughly.

-Don’t rush your meals.

-Let your body catch up to what you’re feeding it.

* Hydrate Intentionally.

-Drink water, herbal teas, and fresh juice between meals—not during. This helps regulate appetite without overfilling your stomach at mealtime.

* Stick to a Schedule.

-Set windows for when you eat and when you fast.

-Over time, your body will stop expecting food at all hours.

* Embrace the First 3-7 Days.

-You will feel hungrier than normal. This is not failure.

-Remind yourself: “This is my body adjusting. This hunger is a phase.”

* Use Volume Strategically.

-Eat high-water fruits (like watermelon, oranges, cucumbers) that give you volume without overburdening your digestion.

-Over time, you’ll feel satisfied with a lot less.

4.) A Mindset Shift That Changes the Game.

What helped me was flipping the script.

Instead of thinking: “I’m hungry because this lifestyle isn’t enough,” I started telling myself: “I’m hungry because my body is detoxing from my old habits. This part is part of the recalibration.”

You’re not starving—you’re transitioning :)

Your stomach is learning to respond to real nourishment, not just volume. When it does, you’ll find yourself full off meals that once felt “too small.”

5.) You’re Not Doing It Wrong—You’re Doing It Right!

If you’re on Day 1 of your juice cleanse, or you just started raw vegan eating, and you’re already frustrated with hunger… breathe. You’re not broken. Your body is actually doing what it’s designed to do—adapt.

Give it a few more days. Let your stomach shrink naturally. Trust that your satiety cues will catch up. And remember: fullness doesn’t just come from the stomach. It comes from peace, alignment, and knowing your food is actually healing you.

Stick with it. Your body will thank you.

This is a public episode. Not the grief that comes from losing a person — though that plays a role here — but the grief that shows up when you lose parts of yourself, your comfort, your traditions, and your identity to become someone new.

Yes, I was losing it…

After completing a 90-day juice cleanse, I made the decision to transition into a raw vegan lifestyle. But unlike my earlier shift to veganism in 2016, this time wasn’t easy. It wasn’t just a dietary change — it was an emotional rollercoaster! The passing of a loved one, the pressure to stay publicly committed, and the silent moments of temptation all collided in a way I didn’t see coming.

This Episode Digs Deeper Into My Beginning:

* What it really felt like to break a promise to myself

* The guilt that came from slipping up on my journey

* How grief showed up through food, holidays, family events, and memories

* And why the raw lifestyle demanded more than just a change in diet — it demanded identity-level transformation

I share my emotional process, including the moments in parking lots staring down old comforts, the silent battles between commitment and craving, and the quiet strength it took to rebuild trust in myself. When I tell you it all sucked! It did! Nothing was pleasant about those dark moments.

If you've ever felt like giving up because the path to healing got heavy, this episode is your reminder: You Can Do It! What did Nike Say - “Just Do it!” Grief is part of growth. Doubt is part of discipline. And even in the dark — you’re still becoming.

Start With Your Purpose — Every Time!

Before you commit; before you change your diet; before you sign up, show up, or start over...Get clear on why you’re doing it.

Because when life hits hard — and it will — motivation won't be enough. The hype fades. The “new” wears off. And that’s when your purpose becomes your anchor.

Starting with your why keeps you grounded when the journey gets uncomfortable. When the cravings hit. When you’re misunderstood. When progress feels invisible.

Without a clear purpose, it's easy to quit. But when you know your “why”?You remind yourself that this isn't about being perfect — it’s about being aligned.

Your purpose reminds you:

* That you want to heal, not just look healthy.

* That you want peace, not just results.

* That you want freedom, not just control.

It doesn’t have to be deep to anyone else — it just has to be real to you. That hunger can feel loud, frustrating, and discouraging… especially when you’re making intentional changes.

But here’s something important to remember: the body is adaptable. If you feed it junk consistently, it’ll adjust to that. If you overeat, it’ll stretch — not just the skin, but the stomach itself. And if you suddenly make a shift toward cleaner eating, the body won’t always respond with instant ease.

We often mistake what the body has adjusted to as what’s natural — but they’re not the same. Our stomachs were never designed to hold the volume we’ve trained them to expect.

Let Go of Unrealistic Expectations

We jump into new lifestyles thinking our bodies will quickly fall in line. But I’m here to tell you: that’s just not how it works. The body is constantly recalibrating, trying to find balance — whether you’re feeding it fear, drugs, discipline, or fitness. It's doing the best it can with what you give it.

One hard truth? We're not the manufacturer. Our bodies didn’t come with a manual (and if they did, I'd be the first in line to read it!). So instead, we learn through experience. Even when the changes are good, the adjustment can feel hard.

That’s where patience comes in. That’s where your “why” has to be louder than your cravings. Because while your journey might go smoothly — it might also get tough. And in those tough moments, you need a reason to keep going.

To help you take that first step, I’ve created a simple raw vegan meal plan to get you through Day One. Because sometimes, getting started is the hardest part — and I’ve got you. :)

Where I Stand Right Now

My stomach has shrunk significantly, and while I still get the occasional craving, I’ve come to realize it’s rarely about the food itself. It’s the memories — the connection, and the moments tied to what I used to eat. I’m still a work in progress, still learning, still growing. This journey isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence, and I’m showing up for it every day.

💌 If this resonated with you, I’d love to have you subscribe. Subscribe to Rooted in Raw

This is a public episode.
