Data is powerful but only if we can use it to drive real actions. That’s why to launch this newsletter and community space, we are kicking off with our project - Data Journalists for #BlackLivesMatter.

With so much key information flying around, we wanted to give it a permanent home. We hope this will grow into a database where journalists, community organisations and activists can find the correct and - most importantly - properly sourced numbers they need.

Because this is a community project, we want to gather data from as many different sources as possible. If you are a data analyst, data journalist, or know of a dataset that should be added, please contribute! We know there’s a lot to be done, but this is one small way to take action and make sure we keep the events of recent weeks in front, and in focus. It’s as easy as filling out this submission form.

What is this newsletter about?

Data journalism is still a relatively new field and through the newsletter, we want to build a community of data storytellers to exchange ideas and showcase great work. Each month, we’ll be bringing you explorations, conversations, and visualisations shaped by data. Plus, original data stories you won’t find published anywhere else. 

This newsletter is for data junkies, editors, writers, students interested in data journalism whether established or aspiring and simply, for those who just love to read. We’ll give you access to resources and educational materials as well as chance to connect with the community and share your projects.
