I learned that if the foundation isn’t set correctly, it doesn’t matter how beautiful the house is—it’s eventually going to crack under the pressure.

Our lives are the same way. In my books, I look at the “blueprints” of our habits and our fears. I remember working on a complex computer game years ago and realizing that “bugs” in the code are a lot like the “glitches” in our thinking. They aren’t failures; they’re just instructions that need to be rewritten.

I’ve applied this logic to my own life—from the way I manage my morning routine to how I process stress. In Creating a New You and Anxiety: An Owner’s Manual, I show you how to be the architect of your own mental health, using tools that are grounded in both science and soul.

You have the power to redesign your experience. Let’s take a look at your foundation and start building something that lasts.

For blogs, eBooks and print books go to:

fredjonesphd.com

fredjonesphd.substack.com

amazon.com/author/fredericjonesphd

Get full access to Frederic Jones PhD at fredjonesphd.substack.com/subscribe

Frederic Jones PhD

<itunes:author>Frederic Jones PhD</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>62</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/4604503/post/191069157/bbe4adeecd09817631adc036031424db.jpg"/>

The Kitchen Table

Growing up in Monticello, Florida, I remember how certain paths in the grass would get worn down just from people walking the same way to the porch every single day. Our brains do the exact same thing with our habits.

I’m Dr. Frederic Jones, and for years, I struggled with my own “worn-down paths”—habits that didn’t serve me anymore but felt impossible to change. In my book, Creating a New You, I share how I used my background in psychology to stop fighting my nature and start “re-planting” those paths.

I remember one patient who thought they were “lazy” because they couldn’t stick to a gym routine. We didn’t focus on willpower; we focused on their environment. By making one tiny change to where they put their shoes, the habit finally clicked. That’s the power of a micro-habit.

You aren’t stuck with your old trails. Whether you’re in a small town or a big city, you can start walking a new way today. Let’s build that “New You” together.

For blogs, eBooks and print books go to:

fredjonesphd.com

fredjonesphd.substack.com

amazon.com/author/fredericjonesphd

Get full access to Frederic Jones PhD at fredjonesphd.substack.com/subscribe

Frederic Jones PhD

<itunes:author>Frederic Jones PhD</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>67</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/4604503/post/191069007/bbe4adeecd09817631adc036031424db.jpg"/>

Practical Mindfulness 3-30-26

Get full access to Frederic Jones PhD at fredjonesphd.substack.com/subscribe

Frederic Jones PhD

<itunes:author>Frederic Jones PhD</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>465</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/4604503/post/192645887/bbe4adeecd09817631adc036031424db.jpg"/>

The View from the Studio

As a landscape painter, I’ve spent hours looking at the way light hits the trees here in Northern California. But I’ll be honest: there were years where I was so busy doing life that I forgot how to actually see it.

I wrote Be Still because I needed a way to bridge my faith with the quiet I found at my easel. I remember a time after my wife Judith passed when the silence felt too loud to bear. It was in those moments that Christian mindfulness transformed from a concept into a lifeline for me.

It’s about more than just sitting still; it’s about learning to recognize God’s presence in the brushstrokes of our daily lives. I share the “progressive path” I took to move from a restless mind to a resting soul, even in the midst of grief and transition.

You don’t have to be an artist to find this peace. You just have to be willing to look. Join me, and let’s practice being still together.

For blogs, eBooks and print books go to:

fredjonesphd.com

fredjonesphd.substack.com

amazon.com/author/fredericjonesphd

Get full access to Frederic Jones PhD at fredjonesphd.substack.com/subscribe

Frederic Jones PhD

<itunes:author>Frederic Jones PhD</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>57</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/4604503/post/191068770/bbe4adeecd09817631adc036031424db.jpg"/>

The Sound of the Banjo

When I first started learning the banjo, my hands would get so tight from overthinking the notes that I’d actually start to shake. My anxiety about “getting it right” was the very thing keeping me from playing the music.

I see this every day in my practice. We get so caught up in the “what-ifs” of the future that we lose the rhythm of the present. In Anxiety: An Owner’s Manual, I share how I learned to talk to that anxious part of my brain—the one that’s just trying to protect me from making a mistake—and tell it, “It’s okay, I’ve got this.”

I’ll never forget a moment in my own life when a panic spike felt like a physical wall. I had to use the exact tools I teach in this book—grounding myself in the here and now—to breathe my way through it.

You don’t have to play every note perfectly to have a beautiful life. Let’s open up the manual and learn how to tune out the noise so you can hear the music again.

For blogs, eBooks and print books go to:

<a target="_blank"
