As you have probably heard by now, Robert Redford died this week at the age of 89. I had the pleasure of interviewing him twice over the years. First in the studios of WAMU in Washington D.C. in 2006, and a year later in Utah at the Sundance Institute.

At Sundance, we walked the ski trails together and I was totally amazed at the beauty of the area. I was so impressed with the almost sacred sense he had about caring for the land. He told me it all began with the purchase of just two acres, and eventually expanded to become what it is today, a beautiful resort and incubator for aspiring filmmakers.

Today I’d like to share that first conversation I had with him at WAMU where he told me about how his interest in conservation and care of the land actually began. You can listen to it here.

Eleven States plus DC allow Medical Aid in Dying. Jane Euler is a Death Doula who helps individuals and their families through what is the most important part of their lives — the time to die.

Eleven States and the District of Columbia now have the right to die with the passage of Medical Aid in Dying Laws. Mary Klein fought for the law in DC and became the first person to use it in 2018, after years of suffering through surgery and chemotherapy to treat her cancer.

She wanted to live and did everything she could to prolong her life. But in the end the pain was too great.

Her widow, Stella Dawson, tells the story of their long marriage and Mary’s ultimate death.

If, as he has threatened to do, President Trump takes over the governance of the District of Columbia, residents may lose the right to choose when to die.
