We talked with Kelly Groehler of Sprosty Network about her progression from Director of External Relations at Best Buy to her present job working in a retail startup accelerator here in the Twin Cities. Kelly tells us about how she spent time deciding what she _didn't_ want to do, which ended up being important as she made her way to the role she's in now.

After reflecting on the conversation, we found a pattern emerging in several of the conversations we've had where people we admire are doing jobs they love and finding that formal training or credentials are less important than they used to be. Today we're - FINALLY - going to answer the question, "Who is Mike Mason?" which is a question that has come up on almost every episode since about Episode 4 - so the last 6 or 8 of them. If you didn't hear it from the beginning, it started when we threw out a request on Facebook for listeners to contribute to our Random Question Jar that we do at the end of every show. Mike Mason had fired off several questions in a row, and then as a final question wrote, BTW Who is Mike Mason? to be funny. But we put that question in the jar, and the very next guest pulled that question. Somehow ever since then, Mike has made his way into every discussion and we are so, so delighted to finally have him here, in person, as a real live guest.

Episode 9: How to Party, Holiday Edition (w/Lisa Mason)

Josh & Elli have a chat with their friend Lisa Mason about how to party during company holiday party season. Ironically the three of them seem like they'd be more comfortable in a Lego party, a LAN party, or perhaps knitting.

Things employees seem to NOT like in a work holiday party:

* being tricked into working the party
* when leadership gets out of control wasted and makes inappropriate remarks to staff
* not having enough time to chat
* they definitely do NOT like Santa costumes
* not crazy about potlucks in the office as the only party

Things they DO like:

* being out of the office
* getting a little - not too much - fancy
* not having forced fun
* not talking about work too much
really, most people seem to appreciate just a classy get together where they can socialize for a little while with the folks they work with.
