If you’re anything like me, a new project will spring up from your imagination and you’ll tumble into it before even looking around to see if it’s the best use of your time. It’s infatuation with an unrealized spark of inspiration.

As I’ve gotten a bit older, I’ve made an effort to be discerning but it’s been a while since I’ve faced a space of in between. With certain things up and running, I want to embrace something new. Exciting projects literally wake me up in the morning. They sustain me like no other. It’s difficult to wait.

I was trying to describe this to a friend and finally articulated what I’m doing right now: sitting in the discomfort, allowing time for the expansive next step to present itself. I am sitting with the belief that I will know it when I see it.

This meditation creates shape around that concept, for anyone who may feel a bit murky on their big picture. I’ve partnered with The New Moon - a wellness platform based in Hong Kong - to offer a meditation series called Everyday Transcendence. These meditations will available on Spotify, I’ll keep you posted when the first one goes live!

I had a lot of fun in this conversation, Shifting Perceptions With Meditation, which is now available on their site! It’s baby’s first profile, so thank you very much for indulging me in this moment of celebration.

Okay, now back to what we have going on today: I’ve previously kept meditation dispatches for paying subscribers, but I’ve dropped the paywall to open all newsletters (past, present, future) to everyone.

I love the idea of opening each month with a meditation. It gives us all a chance to re-center, before embarking on what is sure to be a journey. I can’t help but see every month as it’s own puzzle piece. I need not tell you how crazy everything feels right now, nor do I need to describe the extended existential dread of witnessing another war through a device that also happens to live in your pocket.

Spirals happen when we aren’t looking. I started to experience this and went off instagram for a few days. I needed to check the compulsive thoughts that asked me to attend only to the world within my phone.

The mind will always wish to run through patterns of tragedy, without keeping count of the emotional toll. It’s a hard thing to remember, but the mind will always want to press towards a problem even when the situation is largely out of your personal control.

Today’s offering is a meditation to anyone feeling overwhelmed and out of control of their own mind. It’s for whenever you need to step back and observe.

When I listened back to the original version of this meditation, I felt I didn’t leave enough room to actually just sit and see. So this meditation is a bit longer than the original release.

It’s a moment to check in with your body and mind. By seeing what’s going on from an observer’s perspective, we have a better chance of breaking the cycles of thought before they become unwelcome parts of our identity.

I hope you enjoy it, whether this is your first or second time.

xxJames

In today’s meditation, we will create a bit of space to look at where we’ve been putting our most recent attention. Sometimes, it can be very difficult to observe our mind’s patterns, when we are so looped into the process of thinking and overthinking every little detail. These next few minutes are devoted to opening ourselves up, so that we may find a bit of distance from the thoughts that feel so ingrained in our existence. First, let’s begin by coming into the presence of our own being. Ensure that your body is comfortable, in whatever position is most relaxing to you right now. Start to become aware of the breath as it travels in and out of the body. The breath is often a signifier of our emotions. Without casting judgement, take stock of the rhythm and depth of your inhales and exhales. With attention on the breath, see if you can deepen the inhales ever so slightly, smoothing the exhales as they float out of the lungs. Relaxing the breath allows for a greater space of observation in the mind and body.

In this space of stillness, is there any place in the body that is holding tension? It doesn’t have to be a dramatic sensation, but perhaps you’re placing stress somewhere that is overcompensating for you now. If you find a place of stagnation, send breath into that area of the body, breaking up any stale energy. You may do this for as many places in the body as you’d like, envisioning the breath scattering the tension like dust on a glass counter. The tension disperses into the air, leaving your physical realm.

Now, gradually move your attention to the mind. Keep the breath relaxed and smooth, creating a space for the eternal to gaze upon the temporary. The eternal rests in a place of stillness, of serenity and deep connection. As this eternal observer, take stock of how your mind feels. Is it a place of support and ease? Has it felt scattered and frenetic? Perhaps it is tired and overwhelmed. Maybe you sense focus and drive. There may be a little bit of a lot of different things here, take it all in. Is there anything that the mind has fixated on, to the point where it feels like an identifying factor?

From the perspective of the eternal observer, all of this is temporary. It is the river rolling over bedrock.

You can experience whatever set of emotions you have, but know that they are not your eternal essence. Give yourself permission to grow out of the frustrating emotions, give yourself permission to use what may feel like a roadblock and transform it into fuel for something greater. It might be that you need to slow down your pace, trusting that everything will come with divine timing and a focussed mind.

It is natural to want to plan ahead and remove all room for error, but it is within the unexpected that we learn the most. When we over identify with the chaos, our bodies and mind’s take the burden, but we are not responsible for carrying these things. Let them enter your life and exit, just as the breath comes in and out of the lungs. It is a cycle, not a set state.

Whatever you’ve found in the mind, give yourself gratitude for taking the time to create this crucial space to check in. All we can do is come back to ourselves again and again. We are working in tandem with our eternal form. We are one with the limitless energy and the stillest space.

Let us take a breath together, to close this ceremony.

First let all the old breath out, now breath in through the nose, hold at the top and exhale long and smooth.

Thank you for being here today.I’ll see you next time.

This is a public episode. I don’t usually write about celestial movements here but if you’ve been in the subscriber’s circle for a minute, you’ll know I have a special place in my heart for Mercury’s infamous dance.

The timing of this retrograde hits different, as we are just beginning the year and the concept of January is carried by momentum. The truth is, here in the western hemisphere we’re very much in the thick of winter. We should be allowing ourselves time to gestate. Having spent a lot of my life waiting, I’ve come to believe that stagnation only occurs when we don’t look at stillness with active awareness. Observing where we are helps to prevent us from getting too stuck in one perspective.

Today’s meditation offers a moment of communion with our questions. Together we look to the big picture and consult with the thread of divine that conducts in the darkness.

Hope you enjoy.

xxJames

P.S. We jump into an old fashioned race car and zoom into the realm of limitless possibilities.

The final version will have light music underneath, but I’m still working that out ;)

For me the past week has been a bit bumpy, with highs and not really lows but confusions. Move your attention to your breath, notice how it flows in and out of the body with ease. It brings you strength, lighting up the body with invisible energy. The inhales travel deep into the center of the body, the exhales float like clouds crossing the sky.

Now, bring the hands in front of the belly button. With the palms facing up, lay the right hand on top of the left.

Focus the mind’s eye on the hands, imagining a small flame floating in the center of the palms. With every breath the flame grows stronger, your personal energy has taken on this cleansing form. You are in control of the size and shape of the fire, it rests in your palms ready to alchemize whatever you wish.

With the fire a comfortable size, envision whatever it is you wish to release. You can either imagine three dimensional words to drop into the flame or create visual symbols of the burdens.

Whatever you decide, don’t overthink it, just allow the images and words to come forward.

When you’re ready, begin to drop them into the fire that rests in your hands.

One by one watch them fall and be consumed by the orange and yellow light. Your fire has the special ability to transform your burdens into a golden mist, leaving no trace behind for you to have to manage. Watch as the mist floats away into the ether, freed from its former heaviness.

When energies become stale, they harden and weigh you down. With each offering that you send to the fire, you feel lighter. You don’t need to hold onto things that no longer serve you.

The fire warms you, reawakening the high vibrations that may have fallen asleep. The flame glows into the heart, warming every corner and showering it with light.

When you’ve given everything you need to give to the fire, move the hands apart, opening them to the sides of the body. Turn the palms down, bringing them to rest on either side of the hips, connecting with the support below. Being able to observe your thoughts in a moment of anxiety only comes from practicing when there’s nothing going on. You wouldn’t strap on a pair of sneakers and run a marathon, we have to start with a brisk power walk. Take a thermos of tea! Enjoy the scenery!

Before I let you go, I announced this in Sunday’s dispatch but I want to remind you: I’m introducing a new segment for paying subscribers (YOU).Over the course of the month you can send me specific questions or suggested topics to write about, by responding to the Friday emails.

At the end of every month I’ll be answering a handful or taking a topic suggestion and writing a lengthier piece in response. As this rolls out I’m sure it will adjust to what you all send me, but I’m really excited to open this channel to interact with you all on a regular basis.

So feel free to respond to this email or any Friday email going forward. This is an experiment and I’m looking forward to trying it out with you all.

Hope you have a lovely weekend,James

Today, we will practice watching our thoughts, so that we’re ready to do so when our emotions begin to escalate. This meditation will be a little different from what we normally do here. In a few moments, I’ll leave a space for you to listen to whatever comes up in your mind.

Every so often, you’ll hear the chime of a bell. This will remind you to recenter if you have drifted off in the landscape of thought.

There is no wrong way to do this, and most important to this practice is not to judge how well you think you’re doing. The only goal is to engage with an open heart, present with possibility.

Watching your thoughts is very similar to watching organisms under a microscope. You are separate from the squiggles and splotches illuminated between the glass slides. Observe the form and movements, without identifying what you see. If anything, there is a detached curiosity driving the experience.

This is key to reducing the chaos of emotional narratives. Rather than striking back with seemingly solid logic, allow the words to arise and fall away in their own time. As their waves rustle the surface, you remain the constant sea, flowing ever deep.

Before we begin the process of thought watching, let’s get in touch with our breath.

As always, the breath can be called upon as a landing ground when you have drifted off in the daze of the mind.

Start to find the shape of the inhales as they enter the lungs. Is there a roundness in the stomach from the air filling the body? How does the hollow space in the chest feel as you exhale?

Allow the breath to lengthen slightly, deepening the bowl of the belly. As you exhale, the air flows out of the nose with ease.

See if you can find a small space at the top and bottom of the breath, where there is no movement at all.

Take a moment to settle into the sound of your breath.

When you’re ready, begin to survey the mind for thoughts. See what comes up, creating space with detached curiosity.

If you begin to wander, let the sound of the bell bring you back to the breath.

Start to gather yourself, preparing for the end of this meditation.

Let us close with 3 intentional breaths. On the inhales we welcome in divine energy, on the exhales we release what is no longer serving us.

Send any excess air out of the mouth,

Then inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth

usher in new life on the inhaleexhale release what is stale

inhale, embrace the joyful energyexhale whatever is left over

Thank you for being here today. I’ll see you next time.

This is a public episode. Even when things are going well it can be disorienting, but we need only to reconnect with the center within ourselves.

Today’s meditation prompt is a chance to reconnect with your heart and the eternal peace that resides there.

Hope this brings you a little bit closer to home.

xxJames

Before we begin, give yourself a moment to come into the presence of your own being.

The next few minutes, we will give ourselves permission to unwind and release.

You have the capacity to hold so much and be so much. Often we rise to occasions that we didn’t know we were able to. While this can be gratifying, it can also leave us feeling empty, once we have given our all.

In this moment, we can let everything rest. Through this intentional rest, we widen our circle of relaxation, expanding the peace that lives within us every single day.

Become aware of the breath. See if you can gently lengthen the inhales and exhales. Fill your body with this life force that is always available to you. It is here to sustain you, to ground you and to guide you.

Begin to focus on the center of your heart. Within you is a great power to self restore. The layers of depletion are merely on the surface. They operate only in the finite realm. It was my first bath in the new place. The sun was setting and as the bathroom got darker I felt myself slip away from my mind’s recent carousel.

A surprise burst of perspective allowed me to see where I was holding stress and what thoughts were ready to be set free.

When we allow space for ourselves, things opens up accordingly.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

xx,James

Thank you for being here today. I’ll see you next time.

This is a public episode. After Wednesday’s newsletter, I got a lot of responses from those of you who were craving a dip into ease. No matter how you’re feeling, everyone benefits from a moment of calm.

Here is my offering:

During today’s meditation, we are exploring ease.

Take a moment to position the body so it is comfortable. You may choose to listen to this while doing other things, but make sure the task is relaxed. This time is a brief pause in which we give ourselves space to recenter and focus on what is truly calling in our hearts.

Operating in a state of ease allows us to live in flow. Resistance has no place to hold when we are in this space of being. Living this way allows us to be fluid. Even when obstacles arise, we don’t pitch a tent on their platform, instead we find ways to move over, around and through them with levity.

Just as it is hard to carry large bags slung about our shoulders, we don’t want to live weighed down by the inevitable chaos of past, present and future. The more we are able to let things go, the easier our life experience will be.

When we live in a state of ease, we see all the options.

We are comfortable receiving help and do so with grace.

Your ease doesn’t have to come at the expense of others. You welcome into your sphere those who exist in the flow as well. You are surrounded by those who wish to celebrate you and lift you up when you need reminding. In return, you can be there for others when you have enough energy to do so with genuine presence.

To live in a state of ease, nothing is taken too personally. When other people attempt to saddle you with their burdens, you can set them down and see that they are not yours to carry.

To live in a state of ease you maintain healthy boundaries because it feels good to do so. You know that everyone benefits.

When we trust in ease, even the challenges become manageable. It is possible to accept events and occurrences, knowing that they too shall pass.

For a moment, imagine the shape of a bird, wings outstretched, moving through the sky.

When a bird is gliding and soaring, it embodies ease. Lightweight wings are angled slightly to move air downward. Wind rebounds, supporting continued flight with a gentle lift. Nothing else needs to happen for a bird to continue to fly. It goes where it wants to, conserving energy along the way.

Just as the bird moves along supported by the atmosphere’s invisible forces, we can be propelled by the energy of the universe, directing it with our attention. Ease is a state of mind, a place that we can access through individual decisions every day. By choosing the option that is most in line with what makes us feel good, we continue to direct energy in the ways that will support us.

In the same way the bird will angle its wings to guide a stream of air, what ever we put out into the universe will come back to us. To live with ease does not mean you are a lazy person, instead you are intentionally experiencing life. Perhaps you take on less, but what you decide to put your energy towards will be worth your time.

The non physical realm revolves around the state of ease. Our spirit dwells in this place.

When you need to reframe the mind and focus your energy back into the flow, repeat this phrase:

Ease flows through me, with me, and for me. I am this state of ease

Ease flows through me, with me and for meI am this state of ease

Ease flows through me with me and for meI am this state of ease

Wherever you are, you can always redirect. Ease is always there, ready to embrace you. Once you make the decision to operate from a state of ease, the world will continually open up, showing you new ways to move and flow freely.

Everything is always working out for you.

Thank you for joining me today. I’ll see you next time.

This is a public episode. I rolled up from a standing forward fold and found myself standing tall, fully aware of my body stacked perfectly above my feet.

It was a moment of pure center and surprise connection with the earth below.

This meditation expands upon that moment, exploring ceremony within the mundane.

Hope you enjoy.

xx,James

Today, we are going to perform a grounding ceremony.

Before we begin, come to a standing position, feet are hip width apart. Become aware of your posture, gently rolling the shoulder blades down the back, feeling the collarbone and chest open up. Tuck the chin ever so slightly, imagine the crown of the head is being drawn up, pulled by a beam of light. Let the eyes close, feel the muscles around the face relax. The lips and jaw are at ease. Bring your awareness down through the arms, down to the joints of the fingers, all the way to the fingertips. Feel the soft pull of gravity on the hands. Without exertion, bring the belly button towards the spine. This brings support to the center of the body. Picture the tailbone tucking under slightly. Give the attention over to the legs, check to be sure the knee joints are unlocked. Bring the attention through the calves, begin to direct all your focus on the soles of the feet, where the weight of the body rests. Become aware of any minute movements that may happen as the body supports itself from the ground up. Even though you are stable, there are slight adjustments happening at any time.

Slowly, start to picture the air as it flows in through the lungs. The air travels all the way down through the channels of the body into the soles of the feet, connecting with the ground below. As you breathe in, imagine the air traveling up from the earth, into the nose, chest and belly.

Continue to breathe in and out with awareness, consciously connecting to the earth with each breath. You create a cycle of motion, from the top of your head, all the way to the ground beneath your feet. You strengthen your stability with each and every breath. The breath is long and smooth, as luxurious as it is necessary. As you stand in your presence, bits and pieces of anxiety, nerves or frustration may appear. This sensation may feel like a disturbance in the body. When these feelings come up, send them down into the earth with the exhales. You don’t need to activate the mind to figure anything out right now, just give the energy over to the forces of nature, greater than anything we can fathom.

You are creating a tether that attaches you to the grounded energy of the earth. This tether becomes more vibrant and alive with each passing moment. No matter the energy buzzing around, you can always tune into this frequency: the vibrations of the soil, the roots, the stones that live many layers below the surface. The emotions are passing phenomena, but the earth is constant, one that has been here for millennia and will be here for many more. Our bodies are part of this natural world. By utilizing their inherent connection to the earth, we can let go of emotions that would otherwise store in the body and disrupt the mind. This practice of grounding, allows us to be more and more centered when emotions arise.

The emotions can come and go, in the same way that rain falls from the heavens, joining with lakes and rivers, only to evaporate and meet once again as clouds in the sky. This dance is done without questioning whether it is right or wrong. To give oneself to the earth is to accept the gift of our humanity.

As we prepare to leave this posture, let us take three deep breaths together, to close this ceremony.

Imagine the breath traveling in a cycle from heaven to earth, affirming the connection of ethereal to earthly terrain.

When you’re ready, inhale deep into the belly,Exhale down through the feet

Inhale expand the bodyExhale expel the excess energy

Inhale from the center of the earthExhale letting life be light.

Let the eyes open, taking in the world around you. Take a step forward, taking this sense of center with you throughout your day.

Thank you for taking part in this practice with me. I’ll see you next time.

This is a public episode. The same feeling occurs when you stare at a word until the logic behind the assortment of letters fades into absurdity.

In today’s meditation, we enter that space of long looks, this time with the intention of dissolving perceived physical boundaries. Set yourself up in front of an object. Choose whatever you’d like, as long as it isn’t moving about!

Let me know how this practice goes for you.

xx,James

In the physical realm, we perceive ourselves as separate from the people and things that surround us. But the notion that we are independent beings, without connection to others is an illusion. In fact, we all emerge from the same energetic sphere. The larger part of our being is still there, existing as part of a whole. It can be tempting to look only for separation, especially in times of suffering, but by doing so we only prolong our time spent in pain.

Today, we are going to practice dissolving the boundaries of the physical world, by focussing our attention on a single object. What you choose is up to you, as long as it remains in place under your gaze. You may wish to find a tree, a body of water. You can also use an object in your home, like a chair, vase or pillow.

Whatever you decide, take a moment to position yourself in a comfortable place with the object. Once you’re there, fix your eyes upon the shape. The gaze is relaxed, let your eyelids close and open naturally as needed. Observe your object’s texture. Is it rippled or smooth, maybe there are little indentations or scratches you hadn’t noticed before. Does light create a gradation of color along the surface? Are there any points of reflection?

The object is so much more than what is seen at first glance. Just as you have a history that might not be obvious to a passerby, this object is a composition of multitudes. It has passed through either soil from different eras, or been in the hands of many in the process of creation. In the same way that you are a product of your surroundings, an entire ecosystem, whether manmade or naturally occurring, is responsible for its presence here today.

As you concentrate on the object, perhaps a spirit of recognition begins to emerge. Both you and the object influence one another, just through presence. You and the object are sharing the same space, one impacting the other’s place in the world, if only temporarily. This feeling of affinity comes from a place of truly seeing, beyond the superficial layer of existence. It is similar to falling in love, when you are fully recognized by another, and know their heart so deeply in return.

It is possible to feel this way for anything, when you commit to fully looking. Looking without judgement or expectations, but looking to see what is there to be seen. Recognizing what you find with open eyes and an open heart. By creating that space, you allow the boundaries of the physical realm to fall away.

Let us take 3 breaths in honor of our object. On the inhale, send the object the words: I see you and as you exhale send I am you.

We’ll try it now:

Inhale, I see you Exhale, I am one with you

Inhale, I see you Exhale, I am one with you

Inhale, I see you Exhale, I am one with you

These words can be used whenever you wish to create a connection between you and another being. If you can hold space to really be present with them as we have practiced today, you may be able to observe the connection that runs deeper than the physical form. It’s important to move through this exercise as an observer, especially when engaging with people. You want to be able to foster compassionate connection, but not take on energy that isn’t yours to bear.

We do a delicate dance in this human realm, but we are capable of incredible things.

This is a public episode. As I said in this Wednesday’s newsletter, it isn’t easy to reframe a feeling. We have to first see it for what it is. Be with it, without judging. Once we do that, we can look at the words surrounding it.

This is a process, but one that yields great reward when practiced often.

Wishing you all the best,James

today we’re going to practice being present with our emotions, so that we may see them for what they really are. when we are able to do this, the power they hold on us slips away.

if you don’t have an emotion to work with at this time, use this practice so you will be ready when one comes up in the future.

first let’s ground into the presence of our being. become aware of the flow of breath as it courses in and out of the body. whatever state you find your breath in, see it as it is now. experience it, without trying to change it.

find the gentle rhythm of this energy, as it floats in and out of the body.

imagine the air flowing down into the body, all the way to the bottoms of the feet, connecting with the earth below. you are the breath and the spaces in between the breath. the effortless giving and receiving.

in this space, is there an emotion that comes forward in your mind’s eye?

rather than immediately labelling it, see if you can simply sit with the sensation, as one does with a friend on a park bench. two entities, spending time with one another, existing in their own worlds.

the experience of the emotion is not inherently one way or another. it is not good or bad, strong or weak. it simply is.

with the emotion comes a narrative to create a mythology of power. notice any words that perhaps circle around the emotion.

are you willing to keep feeding those words power? is it possible to peel away the layers, replacing them with words that feel more in alignment with your true being?

what narratives provide you with support and strength, rather than the illusory emotions that have kept you in a loop?

when the narrative ties are broken, the feeling is like finding the outline of a window you could not see until now.

the window swings open, and soft light falls upon your cheeks. it touches your eyelids and warms the crown of your head. the feeling spreads to every limb of the body.

it is as if a sun has risen within you. it’s bright light shines into the new day just outside your window.

this sensation is the freedom that comes from truly embodying non attachment. there are only windows and no need for walls.

the next time you find yourself face to face with the sensation of emotion, see if you can practice holding it without instantly labelling.

This is a public episode. I touched upon this concept in this week’s newsletter, but it’s an infinite state that is best understood through feeling.

Non duality is something that I’ve known about for all my life and at this point I almost take it for granted. I know it as a deep truth but when I really focus on it, I can’t think of anything more crucial to practice. Living with non duality dissolves the judgmental voice that tries to “other” people or things. It fosters a sense of love and understanding that can really feel impossible.

If change starts from within (which I believe it truly does) non duality is a really great place to start healing the planet. It’s really that important.

I hope this meditation prompt gets you started or brings you back to this practice.

xxJames

we are infinite beings, having a finite life experience. the world we occupy has conditioned us to see ourselves as separate entities. different from the Earth. living on the outside looking in. this is a mirage. we simply perceive the world as an exterior, in truth it is an extension of ourselves. we are energetic beings, energy knows no bounds. the same energy that flows through your body is also surging through the trees outside your window. it moves in every blade of grass and in every raindrop as it meets the soil. the rain seeps into the earth, nourishing the seeds that lie below the surface. in the realm of nature, everything flows into everything, in birth and in death. this is the essence of non duality.

the mind is the only thing upholding the illusion of separation. when we can challenge the way we look at things, our outlook on life becomes far more abundant and full of compassion.

it is easier to understand this concept through feeling rather than through words.

imagine the sensation of floating in the middle of the ocean. your head is tipped back, your ears are just below the surface. the sun has warmed the water, your body feels both suspended in nothingness and supported by the sea. you close your eyes and the sun fills your vision with bright yellow light. you sway gently, one with the movement of each ripple. with your eyes closed, in the space of light and being the limits of the body start to disappear. it feels as if you are the water.

as you float, relaxed and at ease, the body sways easily with the rhythm of the small waves. you bob up and down through no effort of your own. you are part of the sea. you are not experiencing it, rather the ocean’s experience is your experience. these are the glimpses of our eternal reality.

when your physical form is immersed, it is easier to unlock the mind. however, this oneness is true in all moments. our pain arises when we attempt to separate. we only feel the cold air when we’re half in the ocean.

if you’d like to continue this exploration, spend time outside. consciously breathing creating and expanding the connection to the world outside the mind. practice being aware of the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide with the trees. recognize the impact of this constant give and take. recognize the ecosystem that you are part of. recognize the energetic systems that are ever flowing.

use this sense of our connection to be an active part of the universe. when we pass on a spark, it expands in the same way a tree shares its seeds. whatever we put forth, will be impactful. use your energy wisely.

This is a public episode. Each of us has overcome adversity, which can leave us drained in the immediate aftermath. The easy thing to do is separate from that version of ourself so we may start fresh.

We gotta do what we gotta do. But once we have some space from the situation it’s important to give gratitude to the parts of ourselves that forged ahead.

This prompt opens the door for that process to begin. Have a lovely weekend, I’ll see you on Sunday with Moments of Now.

xx,James

when we are steeped in everyday realities, it is easy to lose sight of our magic. being in the moment allows us to practice non attachment as we look at both past and present. by doing so, we discover and celebrate the ways that we have been remarkable. we can exist both in the now and know where we stand within our life’s greater context. today we will seek a birds eye view, locating the times when we have shown strength and grown from adversity.

this is especially helpful when we are in a transitory moment and we need help channeling strength. we are entirely deserving of the greatness we seek. allowing it to come is the key. rather than forcing the river, step into the energetic state that matches the path of least resistance. trust that things will unfold as they should and trust you will be able to manage what comes. sometimes all it takes is remembering the occasions we have shown up for ourselves and others.

just as you would show a friend support, give yourself appreciation for everything you do.

recall the times that you have made a decision and stuck to it. if you’re struggling to make a choice now, remember that you have done it before. the world is an abundant place. opportunities will present themselves when you are ready.

give yourself a moment now,

can you recall a time when you have surprised yourself. or a time when you were excited to move forward and doing so led to expansion. maybe an instance when you came out on top despite all the circumstances -- hold these earlier versions of yourself in your minds eye. see them with love and the respect that you deserve. sit within that self directed love, bask in it. this energy bathes you, warm like the sun soaking into your skin.

this fiery version of the self is always present within, ready to be tapped.

the body exists in cycles, it’s natural to need time to recharge and reboot. but that is a temporary process. the life force within you is ever present.

give yourself credit for the times that you have shown resilience, that you have created a new way where others may not have seen one. the times that you have shed skin and found new light.

if you’re being asked to step up now, whether that is for yourself, for your creativity or for some form of the larger community, know that you are capable. if you feel it aligns with the wavelength of your spirit, the energy is there to carry you through. your past selves are supporting you, the universe is guiding you and the eternal self is present through it all, unmoved by the changing tides.

This is a public episode. I am here. I am here.

recognize the totality of your being. in this space, nothing exists but the moment of now. and you are entirely whole. you are the space and the being within it.

any memory that occurs, is a postcard traveling through this space. we may pick up the postcard and turn it over in our hands, searching for meanings we cannot find or we can allow it to pass on by.

we can look at it, acknowledge it without engaging our full emotion.

when we do this, the image remains two dimensional and its ephemeral nature is accepted.

rather than activating the thoughts, focus on a phrase that roots you in the present moment.

that happened then, I am here now. that happened then, I am here now. that happened then, I am here now.

take stock of your immediate surroundings. inhabit the space that you’re physically in right now.

when you’re in a space that is bringing up old memories, bring back your phrase, grounding yourself into the moment.

that happened then, I am here now. that happened then, I am here now. that happened then, I am here now.

when you can fully embody the experience of now, there can be joy found in the moment, inspired by the fact that you are no longer in any old situation.

no matter what similarities the past memories may hold to the present, the two are not the same. you have learned from prior experience, you hold the power to choose how you to react.

just as a dog barks at the same noises over and over, the mind activates on phantoms that we don’t need to entertain.

if you continue to feel out of touch with this moment, connect with the body.

bring your attention to the hands. press them together. the hands can only interact with the realm of the tangible present. let them serve as a conduit between you and the immediate world. become aware of the warmth growing in the center of the palms. notice the sensation of the fingertips as they touch. perhaps you feel the texture of your fingerprints as they meet. straighten the fingers ever so slightly, feel the creases of your knuckles as they come together a little more than before. the hands are the bridge between you and the world, serving both as a guide and a companion.

extend your touch with intention. remind your mind with your phrase:

that happened then, I am here nowI am here nowI am here now

this moment is the only moment.

thank you for being here with me for this period of time. let us move forward with the peace of presence leading the way.

This is a public episode. I lived hour to hour, doing whatever I could when I could do it.

being responsible for my own work schedule has been incredibly exciting, but I’m still learning to create a point when my work ends and the rest of my life begins. I know this is common no matter what you do. for me, the two worlds will always overlap, but I’m figuring out how much overlap is okay for my wellbeing.

it’s a process! and we are all living through process all the time.

as I build more of a routine for myself, I’m really paying attention to the cycle of a week. in this covid era, I know many of us have lost our rhythm and our grasp on time. a few months ago the first words I’d say out loud in the morning were today is Friday. it’s Friday all day. it was so absurd it was helpful.

this meditation prompt examines the importance of cycles, as they foster release that is so crucial for new growth.

that being said, happy Friday! see you on Sunday with Moments for Now. James

welcome to the weekend.

no matter what has taken place this week, big or small, let’s use this time to take stock.

within our lives, there are clearly defined cycles. everything from a breath cycle to a week’s cycle can be celebrated and used to begin anew.

in doing so, we recognize what we can release.

this might be physical, interpersonal or emotional.it might be as simple as finally emptying out the wastebasket. perhaps a set of old fears that don’t align with your current situation.

letting go is a natural process, one that can be seen all around us.

healthy plants will drop their oldest leaves, not because of illness, but to make room for new leaves that will collect more sun.

whether we’re aware of it or not, this process happens within us all the time, at a cellular level.

our skin generates new cells every two weeks. we are constantly being given a new shield from the external world.

there is a tiny section of the brain that acts as the gateway to the place where our past lives. it is responsible for learning and storing new memories, without it, we would be unable to move forward. this little hub regenerates over 1,000 new neurons a day.

like everything else, those neurons have a lifespan.

these are the spaces of ourselves that are most responsible for holding the person we are.

we inherently know how to let go and renew. our body knows how to do this with ease, it is key to our survival.

yes, sometimes we may have to let go of something before we feel ready.

here, grief is a necessary part of release. we must process the sadness, allow the emotions to be without pushing their cycle. when we push, they push back and the cycle begins all over again.

but it’s important to recognize that letting go isn’t always synonymous with loss.

when we can do so with presence, it is an opportunity for new life

for life that is in line with your spirit for life that is fuel and fire for life that fills you and awakens you

identify what provides for you. give those gifts a moment of gratitude.

then, identify what is no longer serving you. see how you can change your framing, your interactions and your allotment of energy.

look at what you’re gaining when you choose to let go. if that is still a mystery, try to trust the process that has been happening for millennia in many different forms.

just as the cells are constantly renewing, this process is ongoing. we will always have something to release, and something new to allow in.

be gentle with yourself,

as you are the home, you’re the new energy and you are the table where it takes its seat.

This is a public episode.
