The Modhu Project. Namesake. NAOKA. A podcast that became a beauty brand that became a wellness hub that became a podcast again. Beautiful, half-finished things trailing behind me like breadcrumbs. For most of my life I told myself I was just someone who could not be consistent. That story felt true. It was also the thing keeping me stuck.

This episode is about what finally changed, and the ten things I wish someone had told me a long time ago.

Ten Takeaways From This Episode

01. Consistency does not start with a habit. It starts with a story.

Before any tactic or system, there is an identity. If you believe you are someone who cannot follow through, every tool in the world will eventually confirm that belief. The first move is not to build a habit. It is to quietly stop telling the story that you are someone who cannot. The identity is the real enemy and the real starting point.

02. You are already consistent with something. Start there.

You feed your dog. You brush your teeth. You make your morning coffee. You are not someone who lacks consistency entirely. You are someone who already practices it in small, invisible ways every day. Bring awareness to that. Use it as evidence against the story. You are not starting from zero. You never were.

03. Start embarrassingly small.

Most people fail at consistency because they start too big. They want to meditate for thirty minutes when two minutes would genuinely change their life. The small beginning is not a consolation prize. Protect it like it is sacred because it is. The two minute version. The one page version. The single rep. That is where self-trust gets built.

04. Your word is your wand.

When there is a gap between what you say and what you do, you erode your own inner trust slowly and quietly. The more data you collect that proves you are out of integrity with yourself, the weaker that part of you becomes. The good news is you can always rebuild. But it starts with planting the seed that you are capable of being someone who keeps their word. To themselves first.

05. The returning is the practice. Not the streak.

This one comes straight from meditation and it is the thing that changed everything for me. Instead of beating yourself up when you fall off, you rejoice in coming back. The return is the rep. The return is what rewires you. Celebrate it every single time without exception. A missed day is just a missed day. It is not evidence of who you are.

06. Suck but don’t skip.

You do not need to feel like it. You do not need to be inspired or in the mood or energized or ready. Motivation is a feeling and feelings come and go. Commitment is the decision you made before the feeling left. Show up ugly. Show up small. Show up on the days when everything you produce feels like garbage. Just do not skip. The showing up is the whole thing.

07. Fix your attention span, fix your life.

Consistency is downstream of attention. If you cannot stay with one thing for five minutes you will not stay with a dream for five years. This is worth taking seriously, not as a judgment but as useful information. The practice of sitting with discomfort, with boredom, with the impulse to switch tabs or scroll, that is the training ground for everything else.

08. The falling off is not the problem. The story you tell about it is.

Neutrality is the practice. You missed a day. That is all it is. It is not a pattern. It is not proof. It is not a sign from the universe that you are not cut out for this. It is just a day you missed. The narrative you attach to the falling off is where people lose years.

09. Trust the invisible season.

Consistency feels unrewarding at first because the results are underground for so long. Like bamboo that spends years growing roots before it shoots up overnight. The compounding is happening. You just cannot see it yet. This is where most people quit, right before the ripening. Stay. The invisible season is not a sign that nothing is working. It is the whole foundation being built.

10. You are not someone who lacks discipline. You are someone who has been waiting for the right entry point.

This is the thing I want to leave you with. The story you have been telling about yourself is not the truth. It is just the most recent data point. And data can change. Start small. Return joyfully. Suck but do not skip. Your word is your wand. Use it.

Listen to the full episode of Monsoon Season wherever you get your podcasts.

Watch on YouTube →

Listen on Spotify →

Listen on Apple Podcasts →

Subscribe to the newsletter so you don’t miss any episodes, essays, and guided meditations.

Need more 1:1 support?
