Over the past months, I’ve been experiencing new and old waves of grief surrounding aging, the loss of loved ones, and the state of our country.

As Queer artists in New Hampshire, they each felt a distinct lack of supportive, artistic space in which they could be their full selves. When they were connected at a Pride Festival organizing event, a creative spark was lit, and Queerlective was born.

Queerlective has emerged as a unique organization in the New Hampshire landscape, offering a wide range of workshops, exhibitions, and community events. They seek a more inclusive world for Queer, BIPOC and other marginalized communities through art, offering not only artistic support, but community care and social advocay as well.

Today I’m joined by Executive Director Randall Nielsen, and Director of Marketing Ashley Johnson. In this episode, you’ll learn about Randall and Ashley’s personal journeys to authenticity, and glimpse into the empowering world of creating art in community.

Why is this happening? An organization is no different, and when things aren’t running smoothly, it’s time to pause, observe, and problem solve.

On today’s solo episode, I pull back the curtain to reveal the behind the scenes work the goes on when I’m called in to help an organization root out dysfunction. This could be anything from workflow issues to overarching culture issues (more on why this is usually a bit of a misdiagnosis later).

Knowing what to look for and how to address it is a crucial skill for allowing a team to operate effectively. So take a listen to learn how you can become a keen observer and efficient problem solver within your own organization.

After spending years as a licensed counselor in community mental health, Jenni felt a calling to expand her work. She trained to become a trauma informed yoga practitioner and subsequently opened Embodied Directions, a mental health care collaborative, which integrates yoga, movement, and therapeutic practices.

Jenni’s journey is one that required her to be embodied and in community, two core tenets of her wellness philosophy. Her story is a model for anyone in a stage of growth and seeking to move into a new phase of personal or professional well-being.

Most -if not all- people have had this experience at least once, and no matter how old we are or how far along we get in life, it still leaves a mark. To make matters worse, many of us experience othering at a systemic, ongoing basis, making it difficult to outmaneuver.

However, most of us can also recall a time when we felt totally and wholly accepted. Even if just briefly, we can remember times when we knew that we belonged. What this breadth of experience tells us is that while we know how to other people, we also know how to make a space truly welcoming. And if we don’t know, we can learn. In other words, othering and belonging are skills.

On today’s episode, I’m coming to you solo to share my own experiences with othering and belonging, as well as some insights on where to start if you are dedicated to making your space -whether it be social, political, or professional- a welcoming, accepting place.

“Bread for all, and Roses too” is the famous line from American Suffragist Helen Todd, and has remained a powerful slogan within the labor movement. She later explained that “life's Bread [...] is home, shelter and security, and the Roses of life [are] music, education, nature and books.”


How does this sentiment carry on in our work today? How do we build structures that meet our needs and nourish our souls?


This week you’ll hear from Janie Arquitt, founder of Pantry Posies, a New Hampshire based organization that provides food pantries with locally grown flowers. She believes that access to beautiful flowers is something we all deserve, and is something that can create unexpected connections.


You’ll also learn about Janie’s previous work in crisis care management, and gleaning, both of which coalesced to produce Pantry Posies.
