Briana Gervat received her B.A. in Art History at The University of Mary Washington and an M.A. in Art History at the Savannah College of Art and Design. After completing graduate school, she travelled to Rwanda to continue her studies on the Rwandan Genocide and the art of East Africa. Her prose, poetry and photography have been published in anthologies, magazines, and online publications. From prehistoric caves to Hollywood Hills, I have always found a way to depart from the intended path. Hollywood Hills with its adjacent territories have been the place for astonishing views over Los Angeles, but as I learned it has also been the location for some crimes that are so cruel, one can just wonder how these legacies can coexist. In this weird episode, I aim at exploring the double dynamics of the Hills with stories about the Hillside Stranglers or the Toolbox Killers. “The Hillside” is not a true crime episode per se, though listeners discretion is advised.

My first impression was to get everything and to get everywhere. Later did it dawn on me how much this-getting it-all-done attitude had taken its toll on me. Los Angeles has it all, and “Everything Now” is in the air all the time. In this episode, I take a deeper look into the Speed of Life in Los Angeles.

This is not a true crime episode - yet. The Premier episode opens with my encounter with a lady at the Museum of Jurassic Technology (more on the place: 3 Califorgilicious Places in Los Angeles) with whom we started talking about the 1970s. This conversation made me think how these moments follow me everywhere I go in California. Maybe these moments are not conventional, but they signal the skewed point-of-view I love so much about this state. If I want to sound like your annoying spiritual buddy, I’d say: “Sometimes in confusion there is clarity”
