this one is particularly special for me because this phenomenal woman was once my student. words can’t accurately convey the amount of pride and joy i have at having witnessed her development over the years and to be able to now consider her and be considered by her “a trusted sister for life.”

if you are a woman of color in the military i believe her voice and story will resonate with you. if you know women of color in the military i deeply urge you to share this with them.

and yet, parts of her story are so many of our stories. in part 2 we will talk more about raising black sons, intentional self care, and recalibrating life post COVID.

can you imagine waking up one day and going to work like you’ve done for 16 years only to find out that you no longer have a job? gurl!

my first official episode of the sistah lexicon and so maybe, the most important one to date, was back in 2022 when i was blessed to interview the bold and fabulous Dawn Kelly, founder and CEO of The Nourish Spot.

some time has passed and i’ve learned a lot. i’ve even found a new home on a new platform but it’s only fitting that i share this audio episode of the sistah lexicon with a woman whose story of life-changing loss, and her journey into self-sufficiency and success will be an inspiration for so many.

so, this podcast episode might be a little long, but i want to encourage you to dive in. not one of her words is wasted! her story is so inspirational! her energy and personality are so vibrant and real. you won’t regret it!

even though i have updated my podcast format, including more and better quality, audio and video, i will always cherish this very first episode as an invaluable milestone. i did it. i did it scared. i did it messy. but i did it! i’m still on the journey, learning and evolving. i’m not gonna lie…sometimes i’m still scared. (ok, a lot of times.) sometimes i’m still messy. but i’m not giving up! when i look at sistahs such as Dawn Kelly and what she and her Nourish Spot are doing, not only for her and her family but for her community, i feel encouraged in my vision and i am looking expectantly forward to the future.
