I'm Elissa Carney, a birth doula and home birth midwife in training, and I'm thrilled to share personal stories and engage in crucial conversations with local community providers. Join me as we explore the rich spectrum of birthing choices and community resources available in this unique landscape. Together, we'll navigate the birthing journey, uncover red flags, and inspire you to build your birth coven. Whether you're a parent-to-be, a birth enthusiast, or a fellow birth worker, this is your space to connect, learn, and be empowered. Let's dive in.

Episode Recap: Hi there, it's Elissa, and you're listening to episode number two of the Your Birth Coven podcast. Today, I'm excited to share with you the beginnings of my journey as a doula, the birth story of my daughter Genevieve, and how this profound experience shaped my work as a doula going forward.

Doula Training Journey: I began my journey into birth work shortly after the birth of my son, Jackson, in 2019. Despite facing challenges and doubts along the way, I found my path through doula training with Michelle L'Esperance of Warm Welcome Birth. Michelle's approach and trauma-informed care inspired me to explore homebirth midwifery as an alternative route to becoming a certified nurse midwife.

Home Birth Experience: In the Winter of 2021 I embarked on a transformative journey as I prepared for the birth of my daughter, Genevieve. Opting for a home birth ultimately allowed me to reclaim control and autonomy over my care and birthing experience. Surrounded by a team of supportive midwives (I had three!!) I found peace and empowerment in the comfort of my own home.

The Birth of Genevieve: As labor progressed, I leaned into the intensity of each contraction, guided by the unwavering support of my midwives and loved ones. Unlike in a hospital setting, I was free to move and labor in a way that felt natural to me. When the second stage of labor began, I surrendered to the process, trusting my body to lead the way. In a moment of profound empowerment, Genevieve entered the world after just 15 minutes of involuntary pushing.

Reflecting on the Journey: The birth of Genevieve was a deeply healing experience for me, both physically and emotionally. It affirmed my perspective on childbirth and reignited my passion and commitment to supporting others on their birthing journeys. From forming close relationships with my midwives to navigating the postpartum period, every aspect of this journey has left an indelible mark on my life.

Conclusion: Thank you for joining me on this journey as I shared the birth story of my daughter, Genevieve. If you resonated with today's episode, be sure to subscribe to the Your Birth Coven podcast for more empowering stories and conversations. Together, we'll continue to explore the tapestry of childbirth in Western Massachusetts and beyond. Until next time, may your birthing journey be filled with love, strength, and empowerment.

Get full access to Your Birth Coven at elissacarney.substack.com/subscribe

Elissa Carney

<itunes:author>Elissa Carney</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>1570</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/2283289/post/141491307/6c1719b937f73fe3173dc4f341f7c53a.jpg"/>
