It’s one of those artifacts that captures not just a player’s story, but the mythmaking machine of baseball in full swing. The album weaves narration, play-by-play, and old-time atmosphere into a tribute that feels more like a folk tale than a biography. Listening to Gowdy recount Ruth’s life—his flaws and greatness—reminded me why I love this game and why I do what I do with Baseball Buddha. Narrated by the legendary actor James Stewart and sportscaster Curt Gowdy, this official centennial album offers a nostalgic journey through a century of America's pastime. Stewart's evocative narration covers the formative years from 1869 to the late 1920s, setting the stage for Gowdy's dynamic recounting of the game's evolution through 1969. As you listen, you'll relive iconic moments like Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World," Don Larsen's perfect World Series game, and the heartfelt farewells of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. This recording isn't just a chronicle of baseball milestones; it's a reflection of the sport's profound impact on American culture and identity. Tune in and let the voices of Stewart and Gowdy transport you through the heart and soul of baseball's first hundred years.

Give it a listen—and if you want your own copy, pick it up here:Fleetwood Sports – Baseball Collection

This is a public episode. It’s all here: the swagger, the mustaches, the fights, the improbable wins. Reggie, Campy, Catfish, Bando, Tenace—they were loud, unpredictable, and damn good.

This wasn’t a polished dynasty yet. It was chaos held together by Charlie Finley’s stubborn vision and a clubhouse full of talent that didn’t always get along but knew how to win. You’ll hear highlights from the ALCS war with the Tigers, the infamous bat-throwing incident with Campaneris, and the grind-it-out World Series win over the Reds. Monte Moore’s voice ties it all together like a reel-to-reel time machine.

This is baseball before the polish. Before the PR departments. Durante sings a tribute to Sandy Koufax called “Dandy Sandy,” and Kaye adds his usual showbiz style to the mix. It was released by Fleetwood Records in 1974, the same year Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record. It’s narrated by Curt Gowdy and runs like a radio documentary, covering Aaron’s life and career up through that historic moment when he hit home run number 715.

Fleetwood put out a lot of sports-related records in the ’60s and ’70s—stuff like team recaps, interviews, and tribute albums. This one focuses on Aaron’s early years, his time in Milwaukee and Atlanta, and includes broadcast highlights along the way. Gowdy’s narration gives it that classic feel.
