After writing her MBA thesis on the Lean Startup Principles, Cerina was motivated to work with entrepreneurs. With a background in Lean Operations, combined with the Lean Startup principles, Cerina believes that systems provide the structure to make employees feel safe, and allow companies to scale. She met Lauren, her co-founder, working as an associate in an accelerator - a lack of female founders and involvement, led to the birth of Future Females. Since then Cerina has worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, from idea phase to Round C funding and startups who have IPO-ed, in geographies crossing Africa, India, South-East Asia, Europe and the USA.

We speak about the 5 rooted beliefs that Cerina holds, but here are 2 as a teaser:

1. She believes that creativity is the backbone of everything. It is all about finding new ways of solving problems and approaching situations. Let's add some colour and have fun as well!

2. She believes that by helping people perform their best, a company can thrive by getting the most value from them. And find out what she would wish for if she was competing for Miss World!

Her current favourite quote is: "Don't miss out on something that could be great just because it might be difficult". But I quoted for her infamous, and my personal favourite, saying of 'Don't sit in your s**t.' So, Nicky (Me, Myself & I be used throughout this description) decided to create THE TEA with Nicky because I saw a gap in portraying authentic Feminine Leadership in business, on the sports field and even everyday life. It is evident that the world is progressing, and the gender gap is slowly, but surely, closing between men and women.

The ‘opportunity gap’ for this content comes in is that businesses (and society) don’t have enough insight or knowledge on how to increase Feminine Leadership in the workspace, or what that truly means. Frankly, not many people know what it means as there is no finite answer; it is open-ended. That is why I created this platform; to be able to have open and honest conversations about lessons learned from “failures” with inspirational women from all walks of life, career backgrounds, and ideas of what Feminine Leadership means to them.

The aim of this web series is to create relatable content that can help inspire those looking for career guidance after a bump in the road, insightful conversations about learning from “failure” from role model figures and to quench the curiosity of the open-ended question of what Feminine Leadership is and can be.

This is a public episode. Tayla completed her Bachelors and Honours at Vega in Art Direction and in Brand Communication and moved to Sydney to pursue a Masters in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing. While she was a student in Sydney, she realised that there was a gap in the South African market for “beautiful online boutiques”, which pushed Tayla to launch her eCommerce biz BLVD Boutique in 2017.

BLVD Btq ships bespoke female clothing items from Australian boutiques at an affordable price to the South African market. Starting with a #styleinspo page on IG to launching an #instagramshop with over 27K followers, selling out on items and having to set up #preorderlists, it is safe to say that the South African market has taken to this bespoke online boutique!

We speak about how Tayla launched her #onlinebusiness, her marketing strategy during COVID-19, taking a social stand as a business on social media, and some fun playing a round (or two) of 30 Seconds. Did I mention I managed to get an #EXCLUSIVE announcement from Tayla about what to look forward to this coming October/November 🤩

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blvdbtq/

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/blvdbtq

Website: https://blvdbtq.com/

This is a public episode. Our interview was actually 1hr43min and (as much as it ached me) I managed to get it down to a bite-sized 38min. We touch on the value of sharing a story and breaking the wall of silence, how invaluable that can be for ourselves ad those around us; her unconventional schooling methods and her passion for feminism.

She moved from the UK to Botswana in 1995 where she raised, and homeschooled, her five children in the Okavango Delta. The family researched lions for over eleven years. Afterwards, she moved to South Africa to live in Johannesburg and then the Eastern Cape.

Currently, Kate lives in Rome where she is writing her second book and running the home school business she founded in 2012. Kate is passionate about female empowerment and revolutionizing 21st-century education. You can grab a copy of her first book, ‘Under the Camelthorn Tree: The Impact of Trauma on One Family’ from Exclusive Books or Amazon (or a local bookstore).

Her homeschooling biz: https://www.katenicholls.org/

Her book is available at - Exclusive Books: https://www.exclusivebooks.co.za/product/9781868429851 - Amazon for Kindles: https://www.amazon.com/Under-Camelthorn-Tree-Raising-Family-ebook/dp/B07J45JF3K

You can follow her on her social media handles -

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lionkate5/

Twitter: https://twitter.com/FrankieFurbo

This is a public episode.
