My Name is Jeanine T. Abraham, and I’m your host.

It feels good to be back, and I’m happy to share my podcast with you on Substack, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts.

Today I’ve got an interview with Adjani Salmon, the co-creator, writer, and star of Dreaming Whilst Black. Season two premiered globally on Paramount+ on Friday, February 20, 2026. In the season premiere, Kwabena, played expertly by Adjani Salmon, is looking for his first directing job in TV. After the mistakes he made in season one, he’s determined to do better and sees the perfect opportunity for Sin and Subterfuge, a new color-blind cast drama set in the Regency era. Kwabena believes this show may be the manifestation of his dreams, but the unintended consequences take him on a hilarious journey of self-discovery that includes his family, friends, and Vanessa, the woman he adores.

I spoke with Adjani Salmon on Zoom at the NYC press junket on a cold, snowy afternoon in February, shortly after the world premiere. We had 8 minutes and discussed Black creative artists and self-care, the writing process, and the elevation of Dark Skinned Black love in season two. So please sit back, relax, and enjoy this quick conversation with the brilliant and talented Adjani Salmon of Dreaming Whilst Black.

Get full access to VisAbleBlackwoman’s Substack at visableblackwoman.substack.com/subscribe

VisAbleBlackwoman

<itunes:author>VisAbleBlackwoman</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>847</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1626708/post/189305449/f18a23943a9f14140a45ece2459271e6.jpg"/>

TIFF50 Rental Family

A pre- and post screening conversation with the director of Rental Family HIKARI and Brendan Fraiser at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival

Stay Safe

J9

Get full access to VisAbleBlackwoman’s Substack at visableblackwoman.substack.com/subscribe

VisAbleBlackwoman

<itunes:author>VisAbleBlackwoman</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>979</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1626708/post/173131526/f18a23943a9f14140a45ece2459271e6.jpg"/>

TIFF50 World Premiere YoungBlood

On Friday, September 6th, the remake of the 1980s hockey film Youngblood had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. My guest this week is Peloton yoga teacher Ross Rayburn. Ross has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and I first took his class back in the 2000s when he was leading yoga workshops in NYC. The style of yoga he taught back then was based on Hatha yoga and focused on alignment breathwork and mental focus. Ross Moved on to leading yoga on the Peloton app and in the past two and a half years has reached a global audience through his virtual classes.
Yoga with Ross for the past two years has given me the NYC yoga experience I’ve been missing since quarantine. The music the poses and Ross’s vast knowledge of the body from a structural perspective, have allowed me to have access to consistent healing yoga practice at home. I literally roll out of bed onto my yoga mat and start my day grounded in a yoga practice grounded in love. Ross generously said yes when I DM’d him on IG and asked if we could chat about his creativity. The conversation was …well please listen for yourself to my conversation with the incredible, Ross Rayburn.

Click Here to Follow Ross on IG.

As always if you love what you’re hearing please subscribe rate and share VisAbleBlackwoman the podcast. So if you’d like to see the film this week it will be screening at the San Francisco film festival on Sunday, April 24th, at 5:30pm at the Vogue theater CLICK HERE for tickets. (https://sffilm.org/event/sell-buy-date/) Follow Sarah on IG @yesimsarahjones If you loved what you heard today please subscribe, share and give us a positive review wherever you’re listening. Michael has attracted 586K followers by creating Memes of funny and inspiring quotes like
"New Rule The Underwear has to stay on longer than the sex lasts."
And one of my favorite quotes by comedian Stephen Szczerba, "Growing up no one tells you that one day you’ll get tired for no reason and just stay that way for the rest of your life."
I discovered Michael’s IG during my time sheltering in place. During that time I developed this terrible insomnia and would wake up at 2:00 in the morning and look at Instagram. Through all my anxiety and fear, his posts made me belly laugh out loud and feel better. Michael is so kind, open, and honest about his creative process. In this interview, we talk about the reality of what life is like as a creator on social media, how being fully transparent about his life on social media taught him how to learn to be more strategic about what he decides to share on social media and where process ends and creativity begins. I hope you enjoy my conversation with artist, Michael James Schneider.
Stay safe
J9

Get full access to VisAbleBlackwoman’s Substack at visableblackwoman.substack.com/subscribe

VisAbleBlackwoman

<itunes:author>VisAbleBlackwoman</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>3441</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1626708/post/176496621/6299a33dbb75b7a893ed5ebf2311016b.jpg"/>

3.3 Talking Intimacy Coordination With Laura Rikard & Chelsea Pace of Theatrical Intimacy Education

This week Jeanine has an enlightening conversation with the co-founders and head faculty of Theatrical Intimacy Education (TIE) Laura Rikard and Chelsea Pace about their creative process as intimacy coordinators. Please CLICK HERE to Support VisAbleBlackwoman the podcast by becoming a member of our Patreon community and watch the unedited video of our conversation.
Intimacy coordination became visible in the TV, Film, and theater industries right after the #metoo movement went viral back in 2017. Jeanine first heard of Intimacy coordination when, one of the lead female actors in that HBO series about the Adult film industry The Deuce requested the producers hire an intimacy coordinator to be on set for all of the scenes that involved intimacy, and HBO hired an intimacy coordinator. The same year, HBO required all shows with scenes of intimacy to hire intimacy coordinators to be on set. If you’ve ever wondered what an intimacy coordinator actually does, you are listening to the perfect podcast. Jeanine's conversation begins with Laura as she shares the difference between Intimacy coordination and Intimacy direction, then Jeanine discovers how Chelsea and Laura met and were inspired to pool their resources and create Theatrical Intimacy Education, and they dive deep into the creative process of intimacy direction and talk about TIE’s revolutionary views on certification.
A note from Jeanine," Full disclosure, I've been taking classes with TIE throughout the pandemic and have deep admiration and gratitude to Chelsea, Laura, and the entire theatrical Intimacy Education team for their commitment to this interesting new profession is inspiring and I’m excited for you to hear our conversation."

In the podcast Chelsea talks about The Journal of Consent-Based Performance, ("The Journal of Consent-Based Performance promotes community-based learning among intimacy professionals, without the gatekeeping often associated with scholarly models and the arts industry.")

CLICK HERE to read The Certification Question by Chelsea Pace.
CLICK HERE for Theatrical Intimacy Education's Workshop Schedule

Stay safe and Thanks for Listening

VisAbleBlackwoman

Get full access to VisAbleBlackwoman’s Substack at visableblackwoman.substack.com/subscribe

VisAbleBlackwoman

<itunes:author>VisAbleBlackwoman</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>3129</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1626708/post/176496622/971feeb529500284221be839cd39f9df.jpg"/>

Grounded, Glowing and Connected to Joy- A conversation with Actor Ashli Haynes

Episode 2 Listen to the full unedited interview on my Patreon!
