We tell ourselves that when we finally arrive, the fear will disappear, the pressure will lift and life will begin to feel whole.

But what happens when you reach the destination and discover that the emptiness you were trying to escape followed you there?

In this episode, Christopher sits down with investor, wealth mentor and spiritual teacher J-Griff to explore the inner path to wealth, prosperity and genuine freedom. J-Griff shares his journey from graduating college with $50,000 in debt, no job, no car and no business experience to achieving financial freedom by the age of 30. Yet reaching that milestone became the beginning of his deepest initiation.

After years of personal development, meditation, entrepreneurship and outward success, he developed debilitating chronic pain that no practitioner or healing modality could resolve. What followed was a profound season of death and rebirth that led him to dismantle a highly successful business, disappear from the internet for 16 months and confront the unconscious fears, identities and internal structures from which he had built his life.

Together, Christopher and J-Griff explore why money can solve financial problems without resolving our inner dysfunction, why spiritual growth and financial literacy must develop together and how our businesses often reveal the hidden places within us still seeking security, validation and control.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

* How J-Griff moved from $50,000 in debt to financial freedom by 30

* Why reaching financial freedom initiated his deepest dark night

* How chronic pain became an invitation to dismantle the life he had built

* Why money solves money problems without resolving every human problem

* How business becomes a mirror for our unconscious patterns and unmet needs

* Why wealth creation requires both inner coherence and financial literacy

* The relationship between masculine action and feminine receptivity

* How spiritual beliefs about money can unconsciously reinforce scarcity

* Why awakening and peak experiences are only the beginning of spiritual maturity

* The difference between experiencing higher consciousness and developing the capacity to embody it

* How the spiritual ego convinces us that we have arrived

* Why self-responsibility begins with recognizing the patterns life continues reflecting back to us

* What it means to build, lead and serve from love rather than fear

* Why placing more wealth in the hands of conscious people matters for humanity

This is the journey from pursuing wealth as a destination to understanding wealth as a relationship; one shaped by your consciousness, your capacity, your values and the internal foundation from which you create.

Financial freedom can give you choices, resources and greater control over your time. Inner freedom determines whether you can experience any of it without remaining imprisoned by fear, striving and the belief that something outside of you will finally make you whole.

If you are ready to examine your relationship with money, success, spirituality and service and create prosperity without losing yourself in the pursuit, this conversation is for you.

The path begins within.

Connect With J-Griff

Explore The Higher Yield

J-Griff’s Substack exploring conscious wealth creation, investing, financial literacy, spiritual maturity and the pursuit of a richer, more coherent life.

Other Ways to Connect With Him

Instagram

Website

Episode Timestamps

00:00 — The inner path to wealth and prosperity02:39 — J-Griff’s journey from rebellion to entrepreneurship25:03 — Business as a mirror and spiritual growth dojo28:33 — Why financial freedom failed to create inner peace50:52 — Dark nights, surrender and the intelligence behind our initiations55:13 — Defining true wealth as a lasting state of coherence1:02:20 — Integrating strategy, receptivity and service1:04:35 — Consciousness, inner architecture and material abundance1:26:39 — Self-responsibility and owning your side of the equation1:28:47 — Learning to trust the heart and moving beyond peak experiences1:45:43 — Embodying the human and the divine1:48:12 — Why spiritually oriented people need to build and steward wealth1:56:05 — J-Griff’s return and the creation of Higher Yield1:57:48 — Closing reflections and outro

Go Deeper With Christopher

Join The Mastery Collective

A global community for those walking the path of self-mastery, featuring live teachings, Gene Keys explorations, breathwork journeys, group coaching and transformational workshops.

Send questions or suggest a future topic

If this episode shifted how you think about money, wealth or financial freedom, share it with someone who is ready to build prosperity from a deeper foundation. Subscribe to The Way of Mastery, leave a review and comment with what true wealth means to you.

Key Takeaways

• Money can resolve financial problems and expand your available choices, but it cannot automatically heal the fear, insecurity or internal fragmentation shaping your life.

• Financial freedom and inner freedom are related, but they are not the same. You can achieve one while remaining disconnected from the other.

• Your business and financial reality often reflect the consciousness from which you create, including the needs, fears and identities operating beneath your conscious intentions.

• True wealth is not measured only by what you accumulate. It includes your ability to experience coherence, aliveness, peace, purpose and right relationship with life.

• Wealth energetics and mindset are only part of the equation. Sustainable prosperity also requires financial literacy, practical skills, strategy and responsible action.

• Spiritual beliefs about money can become another form of limitation. Rejecting wealth does not make someone more conscious, especially when that rejection prevents them from serving, creating or stewarding resources well.

• Achievement can temporarily satisfy the part of you seeking validation while leaving the underlying wound untouched. Eventually, life reveals what success was unable to resolve.

• Spiritual awakening introduces us to expanded states of consciousness. Spiritual maturity asks us to build the internal capacity to embody those states within ordinary life.

• Peak experiences can show us what is possible, but integration determines whether the experience transforms how we live, relate, lead and serve.

• Self-responsibility begins by recognizing the patterns life continues reflecting back to us and becoming honest about how we may be participating in their repetition.

• The consciousness behind what we build matters. A successful business created from fear, scarcity or the need for approval can still create internal suffering.

• Wealth becomes a force for life when it is placed in the hands of people capable of stewarding it with wisdom, coherence and genuine care for the whole.

• Inner work and financial growth do not have to compete. When developed together, each can strengthen our capacity to create, contribute and live more freely.

• The deepest question is not simply how much wealth you can create, but who you become through the process of creating it.

Get full access to The Way of Mastery at christopheraugust.substack.com/subscribe

Christopher August and J-Griff

<itunes:author>Christopher August and J-Griff</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>7234</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1594837/post/209393526/32e0c6a7f978508f8f1d130a14e69458.jpg"/><itunes:episode>5</itunes:episode><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType>

From Victimhood to Creator Consciousness | Ep. 4

What if the most painful chapter of your life isn’t proof that life is against you, but an invitation to reclaim the part of you that forgot it had a choice?

When a relationship ends, someone betrays us, an opportunity disappears or an old pattern returns, it’s easy to ask: Why does this always happen to me? What am I doing wrong? When will my life finally change?

But the questions we ask in our most difficult moments can either keep us imprisoned by what happened or they can help us reclaim our power over what happens next.

In this episode, Christopher explores the subtle yet life-changing shift from victimhood to creator consciousness. He reveals how past experiences can become unconscious identities, how protective patterns take root in the nervous system, and how our internal stories quietly shape what we believe, attract, and allow.

This isn’t about denying your pain, suppressing your emotions or blaming yourself for what you’ve endured. The shift happens when a painful experience stops being something that happened to you and becomes the lens through which you define yourself and your future.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

* The difference between experiencing victimization and living from victim consciousness

* How disempowering questions reinforce helplessness and repeating patterns

* The hidden ways victimhood appears in relationships, work, healing, and spirituality

* How protective patterns form within the nervous system after pain, rejection, or trauma

* Why honoring your emotions is essential to genuine transformation

* How to separate what actually happened from the story you continue carrying

* The difference between life happening to you, for you, and through you

* How responsibility can restore your power without becoming self-blame

* The creator-consciousness questions that open new possibilities

* A practical process for transforming pain into wisdom and inspired action

This is the journey from life happening to you, to life happening for you and ultimately, through you.

Your past may have shaped you, but it does not have to define you. Victim consciousness begins when the experience becomes the permanent center of your identity.

• Your past may influence you, but it does not have to define your future.

• The questions you repeatedly ask direct your awareness. Disempowering questions search for evidence of helplessness; empowering questions reveal choice and possibility.

• Many patterns associated with victimhood began as survival strategies designed to protect you from rejection, disappointment, uncertainty, or further pain.

• Creator consciousness is not the belief that you can control everything. It is the recognition that you can consciously participate in what happens next.

• Healing does not require bypassing anger, fear, or grief. You transform emotions by feeling and witnessing them without allowing them to become your identity.

• Responsibility is not self-blame. It means reclaiming authority over your thoughts, beliefs, boundaries, choices, healing, and actions.

• Freedom begins when you separate what actually happened from the story you continue telling yourself about what happened.

• Life can be experienced as happening to you, for you, or through you. Each perspective leads to a different relationship with your power.

• You may not be able to change the past, another person, or every outcome, but you can choose what you carry forward and how you meet this moment.

Creator Consciousness Questions

• What is this experience revealing to me?• What is this experience asking of me?• What remains within my power right now?• What can I choose in this moment?• What belief is ready to be questioned?• What pattern am I being invited to interrupt?• What strength is this situation helping me develop?• What would the empowered version of me do now?• What wisdom is contained within this pain?• What is seeking to emerge through me?• How could this experience serve or support others?

Get full access to The Way of Mastery at christopheraugust.substack.com/subscribe

Christopher August

<itunes:author>Christopher August</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>2734</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1594837/post/208620644/4f7278810ed8134cdf5d686dc87ea1fe.jpg"/><itunes:episode>4</itunes:episode><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType>

Healing The Core Wound of Humanity | Ep. 3

What kind of consciousness allows human beings to burn women at the stake, destroy entire cultures, violate the Earth and call it holy?

What causes a civilization to fear the body, suppress emotion, distrust intuition and attempt to control everything it cannot understand?

These patterns may appear separate, yet they emerge from the same ancient fracture within human consciousness.

In this episode of The Way of Mastery, Christopher August explores the wound beneath patriarchy, religious trauma, colonization, violence and humanity’s ongoing destruction of the natural world: our disconnection from the feminine.

The feminine is the living intelligence of the heart, the body and the Earth. It is our capacity to feel, create, receive, nurture, intuit and remain in relationship with the sacredness of life.

When humanity separated from God, we began searching for the divine outside ourselves. God became a distant authority to fear and obey rather than a living presence experienced within creation. As this separation deepened, the feminine face of the sacred was suppressed, and the Great Mother was replaced by systems built upon hierarchy, control and domination.

From the European witch hunts and the rise of patriarchal religion to the colonization of Indigenous peoples, the oppression of women and children, and the exploitation of the Earth, Christopher traces how the shadow masculine attempts to conquer everything it has rejected within itself.

A masculine consciousness disconnected from the heart eventually turns strength into force, leadership into control and power into violence. Its internal oppression becomes external domination.

These wounds continue long after the original violence ends. They move through families, cultures, belief systems and nervous systems, becoming intergenerational patterns of fear, shame, emotional suppression and disconnection.

Healing begins by returning to what humanity was taught to abandon.

The wisdom of the body.

The intelligence of emotion.

The guidance of intuition.

The creative force of the soul.

The sacredness of the Earth.

The feminine has never disappeared. It governs feeling, intuition, creativity, receptivity, relationship, embodiment and our connection with the natural world.

* Patriarchy is more than a social system in which men hold power. It is a consciousness built upon hierarchy, control, domination and the suppression of qualities associated with the feminine.

* The shadow masculine emerges when strength, structure and direction become severed from the heart. Power then becomes control, leadership becomes domination and protection becomes possession.

* The European witch hunts represented one of history’s clearest expressions of the fear and suppression of feminine wisdom, embodied spirituality, healing traditions and forms of authority that existed outside religious institutions.

* Religious trauma teaches people to distrust their bodies, emotions, instincts and direct experience of God while surrendering their spiritual authority to an external institution.

* Colonization extended this consciousness of separation into the domination of Indigenous peoples, cultures and lands. The Earth became property, nature became a resource and spiritual traditions outside the dominant religion were condemned.

* Trauma continues long after the original violence ends. It moves through nervous systems, families, beliefs, cultures and institutions until someone becomes conscious enough to interrupt the pattern.

* Those who oppress the feminine externally are often deeply disconnected from it internally. Their suppression of grief, vulnerability, tenderness and empathy becomes expressed through control and violence.

* Healing requires the restoration of both the feminine and the healthy masculine. The feminine restores feeling, relationship and reverence, while the masculine provides the structure, safety and protection that allow life to flourish.

Reflection Questions

* Where have you learned to distrust your emotions, body or intuition?

* How does the shadow masculine express itself within your own life through control, force, rigidity or constant productivity?

* What would it mean to restore a direct relationship with the feminine intelligence within you?

* What patterns of fear, shame or emotional suppression may have been passed down through your family?

* How can you build a more reciprocal and reverent relationship with the Earth?

Get full access to The Way of Mastery at christopheraugust.substack.com/subscribe

Christopher August

<itunes:author>Christopher August</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>No</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>2232</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://substackcdn.com/feed/podcast/1594837/post/208705000/2ecac2df558e24adc9da79cf678718b6.jpg"/><itunes:episode>3</itunes:episode><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType>

The 8 Archetypes of Awakening | Ep. 2

In this episode of The Way of Mastery, Christopher August explores the eight archetypes we encounter along the path of spiritual awakening and the shadows, lessons and initiations hidden within each one.

Through his own journey from corporate success to the Peace Corps, a near-death experience, depression, spiritual exploration, fatherhood and embodied service, Christopher reveals how awakening unfolds through four interconnected phases: disillusionment, unraveling, integration and embodiment.

Discover where you may be within your own journey, why awakening is never linear and how every stage ultimately invites you to shed what is false, reclaim your power and embody more of who you have always been.

Dive Deeper With Christopher

🌬️ Explore the Sonic Breathwork Facilitator Training — A transformative immersion in Costa Rica for current and aspiring coaches, guides and facilitators ready to deepen their relationship with the breath and guide others through powerful healing experiences.

🌎 Join The Mastery Collective — A global community for those walking the path of self-mastery, featuring live teachings, Gene Keys explorations, breathwork journeys, group coaching and transformational workshops.

Show Notes

Awakening is not a single momen, but a journey of remembering.

In this episode of The Way of Mastery, Christopher explores the eight archetypes of awakening and the four phases through which they emerge.

Using his own life as the thread, Christopher shares how a growing sense of emptiness led him away from the conventional path and into the Peace Corps in Tanzania—where solitude, culture shock and the simplicity of village life began dissolving the identity he had inherited.

What followed was a journey through rebellion, spiritual seeking, near-death, depression, mystical experiences, breathwork, plant medicine, fatherhood, leadership and service.

The first phase is disillusionment, where the Rebel begins questioning the systems, institutions and beliefs shaping reality, while the Seeker searches for deeper truth through spirituality, philosophy and ancient wisdom.

The second phase is unraveling. The Initiate is humbled by the experiences that dismantle an outdated identity, while the Mystic begins encountering dimensions of reality that cannot be understood through the rational mind alone.

The third phase is integration. The Alchemist turns inward to meet the inner child, shadow, trauma and unconscious patterns held within the body. The Sovereign then reclaims their inner authority, moving beyond victimhood, external validation and the many ways they have abandoned their power.

The fourth phase is embodiment. The Embodied One closes the gap between spiritual knowledge and daily life, while the Wayshower transforms lived experience into medicine, leadership and service to the whole.

Each archetype carries both a gift and a shadow. The Rebel can become consumed by opposition. The Mystic can chase spiritual highs. The Alchemist can become trapped in endless healing. The Sovereign can confuse freedom with isolation. And the Wayshower can fall into saviorhood, overgiving or believing it is their responsibility to awaken everyone.

These archetypes are not a hierarchy, nor do we graduate from one and leave it behind. While we often attempt to change our circumstances, relationships, finances and future through external action alone, our lives continue to reflect the inner patterns we carry.

Real transformation does not come from controlling or dominating ourselves. It comes through integration.

In this episode, Christopher explores what it means to view life as a hall of mirrors, revealing the unconscious beliefs, protective identities, nervous-system responses and younger parts still shaping our reality. He shares how familiar experiences—such as financial pressure—can activate survival responses and cause us to repeat the very patterns we are trying to escape.

The episode culminates in the four pillars of self-mastery:

Awareness allows us to observe our patterns without immediately judging them.

Healing helps us rebuild safety within the body, feel what has been suppressed and reconnect with the younger parts of ourselves.

Responsibility empowers us to stop projecting outward and reclaim our ability to choose differently.

Embodiment transforms wisdom from something we understand intellectually into a way of living.

This is not a path of perfection or spiritual escape. It’s an invitation to descend more deeply into yourself, integrate every part of who you are and become the conscious creator of your life.

Because the world does not simply respond to what you want. It responds to who you are.

Key Takeaways

* Self-mastery is not the domination of the self; it is the integration of the Self.

* Your external reality reflects the beliefs, emotions and identities operating within you.

* Relationships, money and adversity can become mirrors revealing what remains unresolved.

* Awareness begins with observing yourself without immediate judgment.

* Healing requires rebuilding safety and coherence within the body and nervous system.

* You cannot shame yourself into freedom.

* Responsibility is not self-blame; it is the reclamation of choice.

* Embodiment means allowing wisdom to become habitual, lived behavior.

* The spiritual path is not about escaping life, but becoming fully present within it.

* No strategy, shortcut or external achievement can replace the inner work.

Chapter Markers

00:00 — Opening breath and invocation

00:30 — Returning to podcasting after nearly a decade

02:00 — The experiences that shaped Christopher’s path

04:10 — The Way of Mastery manifesto

15:55 — Self-mastery is integration, not domination

18:20 — The universal laws behind the path

20:30 — As within, so without

24:00 — Viewing life as a hall of mirrors

28:00 — The inner child and stored emotional pain

32:00 — Money, survival mode and unconscious reactions

35:50 — Creating space between activation and action

40:00 — The four pillars of self-mastery

42:00 — Pillar One: Awareness

45:40 — Pillar Two: Healing

49:50 — Shadow work and inner-child healing

53:40 — Pillar Three: Responsibility

55:45 — Pillar Four: Embodiment

58:10 — The spiritual path as an ascension into yourself

61:20 — Why there are no shortcuts around the inner work

64:10 — Closing invitation

Quotes

“Self-mastery is not the domination of the self.
