So with this first week of 2024, we are exploring how we can reflect the might of Jesus not just during the holiday season but as the core reason for our existence year-round.We have two core verses that we want to share with you:

1 Peter 2:17 - "Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the King."This is the mindset verse for the community - it’s who we are here at School of the Mighty.

Romans 8:19 - "The creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God."This is the mission verse for the community - it’s the reason why we’re doing this.

We hope both of these verses pierce your heart and soul like they have ours and give you a fresh hunger to be in relationship with Jesus and share Him with others.P.S. This week is a free post and podcast for everyone, so check out the audio and reflection questions below. -The School of The Mighty

Reflection Questions:

1. As we approach this Christmas season, we are taking some time to pause and reflect on this year and be present with one another. We’re also looking ahead to 2024 with excitement and are looking forward to what God is going to do! We’re winding down our “Journey of Faith" series, but before we finish the series, this week’s episode is for all subscribers. This week, we're diving into the profound theme of sacrifice as depicted in J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece, "The Lord of the Rings," and drawing parallels with the timeless truths found in the Bible.

From Frodo's perilous journey to Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, we're unraveling the threads of selfless love and service. It's a reflection on how these narratives inspire our own acts of love and sacrifice in everyday life. So, if you've ever wondered about the power of sacrifice in stories and how it connects with your faith journey, this one's for you!

Reflection Questions:

1. Can you identify a character in "The Lord of the Rings" whose sacrificial act resonates with you personally? What about their sacrifice makes it impactful for you?

2. In your own life, have you experienced a moment of sacrificial love or selflessness? How did that experience shape your understanding of sacrifice, and did it draw any parallels to the sacrifices depicted in Tolkien's narrative?

3. How does the sacrificial love of Jesus, as portrayed in the Bible, inspire you in your daily life? Are there specific verses or stories that you find particularly resonant when contemplating sacrificial living?

4. Considering the concept of offering our lives as living sacrifices, what practical steps can you take to embody sacrificial love in your relationships, community, or daily interactions?

5. Reflect on how exploring the theme of sacrifice in both fiction and faith has influenced your understanding of sacrificial living. Are there aspects of the podcast that prompted you to reconsider or deepen your commitment to sacrificial love in your faith journey?

Scripture References:

Hebrews 13:15, Romans 12:1, Philippians 2:3-4, John 15:13, Mark 8:34, Galatians 2:20 Ephesians 5:2, 1 John 3:16

School of the Mighty: Apparel Now Available

In case you haven’t heard – we launched our online store, with new and limited School of the Mighty apparel! Each product bears the verse 1 Peter 2:17 that challenges and encourages us to “Honor all men. Two weeks ago, we started our "Journey of Faith" series, so for the next part of the series, this week we’re talking about the essence of masculinity.

There's a major war on the male identity today, and we want to invite you into this conversation and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart on this matter.

So, you’re invited to join us as we explore healthy, God-designed masculinity while contrasting it with toxic masculinity. We focus on Aragorn from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings as well as biblical figures like David and his mighty men.The traits these men exemplify are an inspiration for all men today, as they offer a pathway to embracing a true male identity empowered by the Holy Spirit, while openly living a life surrendered to Jesus as their King.

Listen to the podcast for more and check out this week’s reflection questions!

Reflection Questions:

1. Reflecting on Aragorn's character, in what ways do you perceive the balance between strength and humility, and how might this contrast with popular portrayals of masculinity in today's culture?2. How does the model of healthy masculinity, seen in figures like Aragorn, David's Mighty Men, and Jesus influence your perspective on fostering healthy relationships, honor, and protection in your personal life?3. Consider the notion of toxic masculinity traits versus those of healthy masculinity. In what ways can recognizing and rejecting toxic traits positively impact your personal interactions and the people around you?4. In light of the encouragement to adopt the positive attributes of masculinity, how can you actively incorporate these virtues in your everyday life to promote respect, humility, and love in your relationships and communities?5. How can the stories and values reflected in Aragorn, David, and Jesus inspire you to challenge and transform societal norms and perceptions of masculinity, encouraging a healthier, more balanced ideal in the world today?

Scripture References:

Proverbs 11:2, Colossians 3:19, John 15:13, John 13, Revelation 19, 1 Samuel 18:3, Ephesians 5:25, 1 Samuel 18:14

School of the Mighty: Apparel Now Available

In case you haven’t heard – we launched our online store, with new and limited School of the Mighty apparel! Each product bears the verse 1 Peter 2:17 that challenges and encourages us to “Honor all men. We had something prepared, but after what’s occurred in our lives personally this week, we felt led to change topics.

In this week’s podcast, we talk about enduring constant attacks and trials. Right now, we’re going through quite a few ourselves - from life-changing ones to little, annoying ones that are meant to wear us down. Some days might even feel like they’re filled with constant disappointments and all of your emotions are telling you to give up and that you’re living in defeat. HOWEVER! … What if the difference between being a victim of circumstance and a victor boils down to a simple, personal choice? Chances are, the more you dive deeper into your relationship with Jesus and step out in love toward others, the more frequent difficulties will arise. So, what if when you signed up to be a mighty man or woman of God with Jesus - you actually receive a new identity and that is one of a champion regardless of the circumstances? And what if the circumstances have nothing to do with punishment and even more importantly, have no bearing on who you are and what the future holds? No matter what you’re going through, there is hope and there is a way forward. The world is looking for answers and because of who lives inside of you, you actually have answers for their pain and problems. Not just “Christian-ese” or religious remarks. Allow yourself to be in process, and reject religious condemnation by letting go of how others perceive your walk with Jesus. (This could be anything from something minor like changing habits to something more extreme like changing careers or relationships.)

* If God is truly for you, what does that mean for you in your circumstance?

About The School of the Mighty

The School of the Mighty is led by men and women, just like you, who long to be people after God’s own heart. The way in which they honored each other (and, honestly, just had a blast with one another) is something we aspire to and long to see more of in society. In our discussion today, we look at David’s example (even with his personal failings) in shaping healthy and God-honoring relationships today, as well as other key scriptures and figures. We focus on subjects like:

* Valuing Marriage in Our Modern Lives

* Cherishing and Honoring One Another

* Seeking God’s Guidance in Marriage

* Overcoming Challenges or Personal Failures with Repentance and Forgiveness

* Nurturing Emotional Intimacy and Vulnerability

This topic is super important to us because even with our own fair share of personal failings, we can say without a doubt that our marriage is a reality solely because of Jesus. What He’s done for us, He can do for you, too!

The infamous Nick & Nora Charles from The Thin Man

The Takeaway: Personal Application

1. How can I prioritize emotional intimacy and vulnerability in my relationship, taking inspiration from King David's transparency and openness in his marriages?2. In what ways can I demonstrate honor and appreciation for my partner, cherishing them as King David did with his wives, and fostering a deeper sense of love and respect in our marriage?3. When faced with challenges in my relationship, how can I emulate David's example of seeking forgiveness and extending grace, to build a stronger foundation of repentance and forgiveness?4. How can I integrate God's wisdom and guidance into my marriage, seeking His direction and strength in our journey together, just as David sought the Lord's counsel in his life?5. And thanks to the Holy Spirit, we can have adventures every day. Exploring the character and diversity of the Holy Spirit reveals His desire for us to experience life with Him in exciting and surprising ways - even in the most mundane or familiar circumstances. Some of the best adventures we’ve had with Him and opportunities to witness God’s goodness and power have been when we were running errands and didn’t have any outreach planned. This week we’re talking about building a relationship with Holy Spirit, how incredible life can be with Him, and why having a relationship with Him is the door to reaching others around you - because He knows exactly what they need!We made a couple of book recommendations at the end of the podcast, too, so I’ll list those below: 1. Wild at Heart - John Eldridge2. Captivating - Stasi Eldridge

The Takeaway: Personal Application

1. We’ve both been through this kind of season, and we’re actually in one right now - so know you’re not alone! ”Wilderness” is a term we hear a lot in Christian circles, and it usually brings up negative thoughts and emotions, or we can talk positively about it once it’s over. But…

What if this time in your life isn’t one to run from? What if it’s not punishment or your “fault”? And what if there’s so much goodness to be found in it because it’s a unique opportunity to go deeper with the One who made you, and who knows and loves you better than anyone ever could? We trust you will feel encouraged to embrace this time and run toward Jesus.Listen to the podcast discussion for more.P.S. Oftentimes, we’re told to ignore them altogether, which can cause us to hold them inside and never learn how to live with our emotions in a healthy way. The reality is, we have emotions for a reason. So, this week in Lessons from the Battlefield, we talk about the power of emotions and their significance in our everyday lives. David and his Mighty Men were deeply emotional, and God highlights this as a source of inspiration and guidance. In this podcast, we explore how we can respond to our emotions as God intends using Biblical principles. We give examples of people who are living this out in their lives right now, and we discuss how our lives can look the same. This podcast is meant to excite you and encourage you to fight well and release the kingdom everywhere you go in real, tangible ways, just like Jesus. As a couple living in a rural city, working jobs just like you, our ability to be mighty is no different from yours. And trust us, we have our fair share of major failings and flaws. But, we’re desperately hungry to live in a relationship with Jesus in depth and power, and we’re inviting you to do the same.Ben & Tori,The Wildheart Revolution

This episode is free to all subscribers.
