Method: V is for Voice

Friend, happy Cinco de Mayo! 🌮🥑

This episode feels extra special to me this week.

Because while we’re talking about healing and reclaiming your voice, I was in the kitchen making homemade roasted salsa and guacamole. And for me, that’s not just a recipe. That’s home.

I grew up in California, surrounded by Mexican culture, Mexican food, Mexican familia energy. My closest friends growing up were cholas who loved me enough to give me a nickname: La Chinita. 😄 That’s what happens when you’re a little Filipina girl who grew up fully immersed in the culture and somehow just... belonged there.

So today, on Cinco de Mayo, making salsa and guac while talking about voice and healing feels like the most me thing I could do. And honestly? That’s what this episode is really about.

Being fully yourself. Using your voice. Letting Jesus meet you in the real, ordinary, beautiful moments not just the quiet, cleaned-up ones.

The V in S.A.V.O.R. is for Voice.

Have you ever learned that silence was safer? That your needs were too much? That pushing through was just what you had to do?

Friend, I’ve been there.

In this episode I share a personal story from therapy : the moment I invited Jesus into a room full of every younger version of myself. Those little girls had learned to stay quiet, perform, people-please, and survive.

But He was not afraid of their pain. He was not uncomfortable with their tears.

And He wants to meet you there too.

🎧Listen Here

In This Episode:

* Why busyness becomes a hiding place

* How to tell the difference between God’s voice and the enemy’s voice

* Why voice and forgiveness go together

* My personal “Desi Grace” story and the lie God replaced with truth

* A prayer to come out of agreement with shame

Scriptures: John 10:27 · Jeremiah 1:5

This Week’s Practice: When you feel triggered or tempted to shut down: pause, breathe, name what you feel, and ask: “Jesus, what is true?”

🫙 In the Kitchen This Episode: I’m making homemade roasted salsa and guacamole while we talk, because healing doesn’t only happen in quiet rooms. Be more. Hold more. Prove more.

But today, I want to gently offer a different invitation.

What if the pause you keep resisting…Is the very thing that could stop the unhealthy pattern you’ve been living in?

This episode was born from that question.

So many of us learned that love looks like multitasking better, pushing through pain, staying busy so everything doesn’t fall apart. For a long time, I believed that too. I lived it. My body, my soul, and my spirit paid the price.

Perfect Love, though, doesn’t rush you.It doesn’t demand performance. It doesn’t bypass your body to reach your spirit.

Perfect Love makes room for healing.

In this Valentine’s Day episode, I share:

* Why multitasking and chronic busyness often feel safe but keep us stuck

* A personal, everyday story about learning to pause during my woman cycle (and why that matters for our daughters)

* How cultural messaging trains women to override their bodies

* The story of the woman with the issue of bloodnand the kind of Love that stops for her

* Three reasons pausing actually breaks unhealthy patterns (without shame)

One moment that stayed with me while recording this:Jesus was busy. The crowd was pressing in. Urgency was everywhere. And still He paused to stop. He turned toward her. He called her “daughter.”

That’s what Perfect Love does.

If this stirred something tender in you, you’re not behind. You’re not weak. You’re not failing at life.

You might simply be ready to pause.

An Invitation

If you feel drawn to practice pausing not perfectly, but gently, I want to invite you to the 21-Day Pause Challenge.

This isn’t about escaping your life. It’s about learning how to stay present within it.

You don’t earn rest. You choose it because rest is how we release… and receive.

Join the 21-Day Pause Challenge Here

If this episode brought something up for you, memories, questions, or reflections, you don’t have to hold that alone.

You can reply to this post, leave a comment, or email me directly:📩 [team143@thesavormama.com]

What’s Next

Next episode: Being Still, DaughtersIf pausing is the practice, stillness is the posture.

Until then…breathe.slow your pace.and remember: you are deeply loved. 🤍

This is a public episode. It means you’re human. Fear is an alarm system, sometimes it’s wisdom, and sometimes it’s an old wound.

In this episode, I share a personal moment that changed everything: the years I believed the only safe life I could have was the one I grew up with… and how that belief surfaced in waves when we made a big shift (debt-free, downsized, RV life, cross-country move).

And then I take you into the practical: a simple real-time tool you can use when fear rises so you can stay with yourself and with God, instead of spiraling into urgency, perfectionism, or shrinking.

In this episode, we talk about:

* The difference between fear that protects and fear that performs

* Why growth often triggers old survival beliefs (“stay safe,” “don’t risk,” “don’t disappoint”)

* My 2020 wake-up call as a stay-at-home mom with two kids under two and the question that started my healing:“How can I overflow if I’m empty?”

* The parenting principle that helps adults too: validation doesn’t spoil instead validation integrates!

* “Inferior fear → superior fear”: letting holy awe re-center what sits on the throne

The practice: PAUSE (my real-time fear reset)

Here’s the tool I use to help me in my healing and growth journey:

PAUSE → FEEL/NAME → FIND THE THOUGHT → REPLACE WITH TRUTH → CHOOSE

* PAUSE: one slow breath. (“I’ll fail.” “I’ll be judged.” “I’m unsafe.”)

* REPLACE WITH TRUTH:

* “My upbringing was my starting point, not my God-given ceiling.”

* “Fear is a signal, not a sentence.”

* “God invites me close.”

* “I am safe to learn.”

* CHOOSE: one small next step. Did You Eat Yet?

“Kumain ka na?”Have you eaten yet?

For many of us, especially those who grew up Filipino or in immigrant homes, that question was how love was expressed. Not always through words, but through food, care, and responsibility.

In this episode, I’m reflecting from my kitchen, where feeding others has always been my love language and gently naming the pressure beneath it. Because sometimes love looked like carrying everyone else while neglecting ourselves.

As an Ate, an eldest daughter, I learned love as responsibility before I ever learned love as rest. I grew up fast, became a helper early, and while that shaped my strength, it also led to burnout and exhaustion.

Together, we reframe love and rest through the life of Jesus. We explore why rest is more than stopping your body; it’s learning to receive. Why love isn’t something we manufacture, but Someone we receive from. And how Jesus shows us how to love deeply without living depleted.

This episode is an invitation to pause, reflect, and receive God’s love again without striving.

Links & Resources

🌿 Pause Challenge→ https://cielothesavormama.systeme.io/pausechallenge

📖 Books Mentioned• Pursuing Perfect Love → https://amzn.to/45pAhbE• Sacred Rest by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith → https://amzn.to/3NcwaK1

🍳 Kitchen Rhythm• Garlic Herb Fried Recipe → https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Tahzg3ytzXLBCd1phKfEdzuMHHf5vMJV/view?usp=sharing•

Japanese BBQ Sauce → https://amzn.to/4aTlM3G

🤍 If this episode resonated, share it with someone who needs the reminder.

Cielo, The Savor Mama is a reader-supported publication. We think we’re growing, but really, we’re just performing. In this episode, inspired by the book "Shame to Shalom: Grieving to be Filled," we discuss how shame can manifest in perfectionism, performance, and people-pleasing. And how these habits often mask deeper emotional and mental struggles. With our team member Faith Dublin, a wife, leader, and mental health advocate, we unpack how to process emotions God’s way, through grace, not guilt. Because true healing isn’t just emotional, it’s spiritual, holistic, and deeply human. You can have faith and care for your mental health. You can feel overwhelmed and still be held by God. You don’t need to be perfect to be healed, you need to be willing to surrender and participate! Join us as we walk from pressure to peace, from performance to presence.

Grab a copy of the book here: https://amzn.to/4996zdQ

This is a public episode.
